Hello alll, I was just banded yesterday Aug. 16th 07. very scary move but glad I have done it. I was so afraid I may die on the table and what my kids will think of me should I leave them in such a horrible way.But thanks God, with thier support as well as my husband by myside, I will live to tell my experience. nice to know there is such a great forum for discussion. well my weight is 260lbs starting and hope to reach my goal of 150lbs.I am trying to follow the band protocol as possible and do hope that I don't experience any adverse effects.I just have slight pain around the port site and I have slight gas which I am told is normal. Any advice will be appreciated for a new bandster. This is a new journey, and for me the beginning of a permanent fight to loose ths weight finally. I hope the band will be a tool to keep me in control. I am glad to be part of the team.:clap2:

Welcome to bandland!!! Gas pain may get worse before it gets better. Heating pad helps. Follow post-op diet closley so your healing goes well. Buy lots of sugar free pops, they are a lifesaver when you just have to have something. Thats all i can think of and i heard it all here on this site. You will find lots of support here. Donna

Congrats on your band! Follow your aftercare instructions closely, like you are. Get lots of walking in, that will help move all that gas out!

I felt the same way. I was so scared something would happen in surgery. It was the first time I had been under the knife. I have 3 very young children I knew I did not want to leave. I also knew that my weight and health problems were an early death sentence. The doctor I chose has done a lot of surgeries; bands and RNY. He has never lost anyone. This was assuring to say the least! I just trusted in him and his team and I really didn't get that nervous.

I was banded Monday, August 13. Doing well on liquids, but bored!!! I am ready for some real food. I start mushies on the 27th. Can't wait, but a little scared. With liquids I know I can lose weight; about a pound a day. I am afraid I will start gaining back on mushies. I guess I will really have to start working out!!!

I am 5 days out. I also have some port site pain. Not too bad anymore, and my gas is almost gone. Thank God!!! I am feeling great! Not using any pain meds, either. I took a long walk last night. I am planning on jumping on my eliptical today. I'll take it easy. I am so excited for my doc appt on Monday. Hopefully I will have hit the 30 pounds lost point. I will be doing a happy dance!! :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

I just got banded yesterday, the 17th and have small chest pain and pain around the port. Doing well, so far, I think. I feel very thirsty and am drinking as much Water as I can. I have had two popsicles so far. Today, my doctor wants me to try puddings, Soups, etc. I, too, was very afraid of leaving three small children behind. But I knew if I did something about my weight soon, I would be leaving them soon anyway. Thanks for everyone's help and encouragement. I have learned a lot from this site and am very glad to find people to share my journey with.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
