Megan1982 1 Posted June 8, 2016 I was given my diet post op and it is pretty restrictive. I am three weeks out and I am allowed up to 3 meals a day, at a max of 4 oz of Protein per meal. I can also have a half cup of non starchy veggies. Also, all the sugar free, non carbonated beverages I can handle. I can't have fruit until week 8 and yogurt and milk for 6 months. Carbs are not allowed until 75% of excess weight is gone. Here is my problem, I cannot eat to save my life. I have no appetite and can only handle soft, or liquids. I could just not eat. I tell myself that is bad and I force myself to eat an ounce or two here and there. I see others mentioning applesauce, milk, yogurt, etc. and I WISH I had that option. I feel like at least then I could get something in that is kinda a solid. I think I drink 64 oz but protein intake is way under 60 grams. Any advice? Also, pills are equally as hard to take. Any tips? I feel WAY overwhelmed.
Cervidae 2,389 Posted June 9, 2016 if you're able to drink but not eat, maybe you could just up your shake intake. In the beginning, I sometimes just drank 2 shakes a day.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted June 9, 2016 I am surprised you aren't allowed yogurt. Greek yogurt is one of my staples and has been since I started full liquids.
sallo 56 Posted June 9, 2016 I can't believe that people are told no carbs until all weight is lost. My Nutritionist & surgeon allowed me to eat anything (within reason) and I've lost weight as successfully as someone with a restricted diet. I also stopped Protein shakes as soon as I could tolerate solid foods. Post op diets in America sound hard core! Anyhow, I agree with eating greek yogurt. I used to have some with fruit puree to jazz it up.
Megan1982 1 Posted June 10, 2016 I know; I hate the hardcore aspect of it. However, I found out I have a stricture and that's why I cannot eat anything. They are going to dilate my esophagus to make it easier for me to swallow better. Here's to hoping.

MCE1205 47 Posted June 11, 2016 There are different philosophies within my hospitals team of Bariatric surgeons and we find this out during support group breakout sessions. For example, one surgeon allows Fluid intake along with Protein "snacks". My surgeon does not allow fluids for 30 mins after eating. The nurses who are in attendance have to ask which surgeon we had before confirming diet guidelines. I stick to what my surgeon had advised. My guidelines are eat Protein first, veg/fruit second and starch last. I get full very fast (I have to work on eating slower). I too would be lost without yogurt. That is my go to food.
