I'm five days out of surgery, and doing great!

My surgery was at 12pm on Sunday, and I was discharged around 11:30pm on Monday. Spent most of the time in the ICU after, just for observation but I was fine.

The days after were a bit challenging, as Dubai has a no narcotic painkiller policy, so I was given OTC paracetomol for the pain which didn't help at all, but yesterday I got an anti-inflammatory called Arcoxia that has really really helped.

Walking around, getting restless lol. And I've even been able to drink fluids without pain now!

I'm also really glad I haven't thrown up, though that' definitely what I'm scared most off.

Here's what I packed and what I used after..

PACKED:

1. Phone / Charged

2. Two Changes of Clothes (Tee, Sweatpants, Boxers)

3. Wallet w/ Insurance

Used:

1.Phone/Charger

2. Change of boxers

My hospital did provide all toiletries, which was nice but I had no will to shower there lol

How long did you wait to take your first shower and how was it? I had surgery Tuesday. I need to shower today lol. I feel nasty. Washed up yesterday, but it defiantly wasn't a shower !

@@Tina, I showered on Wednesday for the first time since. I was in too much pain on Tuesday, and then Wednesday I felt disgusting in the morning and went for it. Felt a bit better after, but got really tired during.

I've showered again today, but feel great. Super squeaky and itching to go out and do something.

Had my post-op doctor's visit yesterday. Bandages were removed. Lost 10 lbs. since surgery! Was approved to move on to pureed foods stage. Made a mushed-up scrambled egg when I got home, but it took me an hour to eat it. I should've started with something smoother, but it'll get better. :)

Hello everyone, so I had to have been soo out of it cause I don't even remember really posting my hospital experience but I see I did. Anyway was sleeved Wednesday and my hospital stay never did get any better. I was told to walk 20 laps and I did so afterwards I was hurting and where is my nurse with my pain medicine? Does anybody know cause I sure as heck don't. Horrible horrible nurses and hospital experience. I truly believe if I would have had proper pain management in the hospital my recovery would have overall been better. But anyway they discharged me Thursday and I stayed with my mom that night. I was in excruciating pain that night and I slept in a sit up position. They gave me hydrocodone which I must say did nothing for my pain which felt kind of like labor pain for me. It was just that bad, it felt like cramping and I had gotten stiff. The next morning which was this morning I felt a tad better. I'm determined to get in a liter of Water. I'm down 16 oz of water and did 30 grams of Protein. Minimal nausea and still been walking here and there and up doing things for the kids so I guess I'm doing better. Pain still bad but not excruciating like it was yesterday. Yesterday I was forcing four oz down every hour because I thought I had to, but don't force it y'all you will end up in excruciating pain.today I am able to do four ounces without forcing. And even though they tell you dont get on the scale after surgery because you are swollen, I did and I'm down six pounds since Wednesday. I couldn't believe it. Even with my swollen stomach, I'm down six pounds so I'm expecting this weight to fall off this first month kind of quickly. It better after all of this! Experienced more gerd and throat burning last night but still taking the prescription for that so hopefully that will get better. Any regrets? No I worked too hard for this, I just want to feel better and have a speedy recovery. Sometimes I feel like I want to eat out of habit or feel like I may be hungry but I know it's my imagination because food smells overly strong right now almost to the point of making my stomach hurt. So not actually hungry and I keep telling myself yes I can do this. I didn't have much support on my journey but the good Lord really so for those who aren't married or don't have much support, you too can make it through.

Well, 18 days post op, and finally getting some energy back. This surgery is hard on an old fart. Had my first Mexican food today. Made 4 quick and dirty cheese enchiladas and ate one. Heavenly. Before, I would've snarfed all four down, but 1 was definitely enough. Down from 275 to 240, but it hasn't changed in 4 days. Guess I hit a 'stall'.

Hi All,

My surgery on 7/28 was complete text book with no complications. In at 6am with surgery around 9:15am and I was cleared for outpatient at 3pm.

Never having surgery (minor or major) before, this was a new experience for me. The center for my procedure and their staff gave me the most amazing care and explained how the process would go. I was told I wouldn't remember anything after being rolled into the hallway and would wake up in recovery with my family around me. That's just how it happened.

Day 1: pain about an 8, however understood most that is from the gas. I drank the required fluids without vomiting and was able to walk a few laps around the hospital. I slept all the way home (about 15 miles) and crawled into bed. Even though was dopey, I did the walking and burping. I did vomit up some bile, one time, however minimal.

Day 2: pain still abound 8 and kept walking and burping. I was able to hold down more fluids, however did vomit one additional time with bile and post nasal drip snot. Had slight headache later in the day. Again I walked A LOT and towards the night could feel the pressure subsiding

Day 3: pain down to a 4 and today feel more like myself. I took a shower. Able to drink required fluids with no problem. Have a dull headache again...maybe it's all the meds or I miss coffee =)

Best advice is to walk and burp, use the spirometer and take your meds! Day 4 here I come .

You sound so determined @MissB1982, I know you will do so well!

I have head hunger too. My stomach isn't growling, but I see something or smell something and just want a bite or two. I've started on puréed food which has helped, as liquids are getting so old (pre/post). I'm still thinking about food, so hopefully once I get into a rhythm things will become "normal".

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
