Got sleeved yesterday at 2pm! The surgery itself was very quick! Once they hit you with the anesthesia you don't even you're out until you're waking up in recovery. You'll still be out of it for about 3 hours after surgery until the anesthesia wares off. I personally had no pain, but the gas pain is SO uncomfortable! I suggest that you walk as much as possible! That's what helped my gas pain go away. Make sure you sip your Water slowly. Even sips of water will make you feel a little uncomfortable. But the more you drink, the easier it will get. I tried the sugar free Jello but it didn't feel right going down. So I've only had water since the surgery and I don't even feel hungry. This surgery seriously does take away your appetite in the beginning. Just make sure you get in your water and Protein because you will not be hungry. I'm actually being discharged soon because I drank 4 ounces in an hour. If you're doing this surgery, I hope your surgery goes as smooth as mine! Good luck!

I was hungry right when I woke up. They said it was probably in my head.

I had my surgery on Saturday 4/6. Totally agree that once your out and wake up it's very very quick. I had some initial gas pain in recovery and was shivering quite badly but the doctors and nurses were great and gave me something that sorted that straight away. My surgery was at 8 and I was awake and coherent by 12. At that point I had no pain and was told to have a few sips of Water every hour. I kept waiting for the pain to come but even later in the day when moving to the loo or sitting up in the chair- it never showed up (thank god) and I was able to have no pain meds for the majority of my three night stay. The toughest time I had was the first day of Water only- my throat was really dry and I felt like I needed some sort of juice. Managed to get through the day though and was allowed very very diluted juice later on ...which tasted like heaven! Second day went by quickly and the mind hunger really did disappear. Third day I was allowed milk (yay) and again another taste was amazing. On this day I did have to do my own injection for blood thinners (as I need to keep doing it for 10 days). It totally was much better than I thought and was very relieved. I'm home today and just had my first puréed lot of food and so far so good :) good luck every one

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
