Hi, I'm Mary.

I've been reading for a few days and decided to take the plunge tonight.

I started with bariatric team in December and hoped to be able to have gastric sleeve surgery around April. But in January I was hit by a car and broke the top of the tibia (called the plateau). I was off work and it pushed the surgery back. But I kept my carbs low and protien high and am down 30 lb.

But I got all the preoperative appointments done over a month ago and was hoping to have the surgery end of May...or so I thought. Turns out I have some stomach irritation and small ulcers, most likely from all the Naprosyn I have been taking for the swelling in my leg.so now there's another delay while they figure out how big a deal this is. Now I'm looking at mid July. It's hard to deal with this frustration and to do it without using food as a comfort. Just looking for some encouragement and moral support.

You already lost 30 pounds, which is a huge achievement!

Your surgeon wants you to fully recover before doing the sleeve and he is right. You need a stomach without any complication. I can't imagine how painful could be irritation or ulcers post-op.

I know that waiting is annoying, but time flies and mi July is not that far away. Keep your carbs low, take your Protein and liquids. This will prepare you for the recovery time. You are doing great!

Congrats on the weight loss! You're on the right path. It does feel like the time passes slowly, I'm just trying to keep super busy and for some reason, marking the days off the calendar each day seems to make me feel like I'm making progress.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
