2 weeks Post Op Pain Under Rib Cage

Recommended Posts

I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow and I have been having dull pain under my rib cage like in the gallbladder area. I am still able to drink and have no nausea but the pain is annoying and has been here all day. I called the surgeons office and they said it could be healing...I did have a hernia repair? Did anyone else have this issue? I am freaking out that it is a leak!

Did they check for a leak in the hospital? I couldn't have anything to drink until they did that test. Too add.. leaks are rare especially if you are following your post op instructions.

Did you lift something? I know with my hiatal hernia repair I couldn't lift more than 10lbs for 6 weeks. I also had a dull ache for about 3 weeks post op. That was my turning point of feeling "normal"

My surgeon checked for leaked during surgery. I couldn't drink anything until the next day. I have felt fine since surgery so I have been doing yard work and normal house things. Maybe I pushed it too hard? I am resting today and reminding myself that I just had major surgery.

2 weeks, yard work may have been doing too much. Light housework should be fine, just take it easy. You may feel fine but you are still healing on the inside. See if resting helps with that pain.

I slept a lot and could barely get off the couch during that time period. .

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
