I had blood work and an ekg with my PCP. My blood work came back fairly normal with the exception of my sugar, which helped my PCP write my recommendation letter for my insurance approval. The most alarming was my Vitamin D level, it was so low she wrote me a prescription for it. My paperwork was just submitted to my insurance by my surgeons office. I don't have approval or a surgery date yet but I'm wondering if my Vitamin D deficiency would affect my surgery date?

I've had low Vitamin D in the past, it comes up reasonable quick when you on the weekly dose... I don't see how it would prevent you getting the surgery

Well get the prescription, your going to be surprised how much better you feel when your levels are normal... I had not realized how bad I felt until I felt better... Good luck

My Vitamin D level was less than 4, virtually undetectable according to my doctor. He gave me a script and has me taking twice the dose for the first month and then a single dose thereafter.

I think you'll find a large amount of WLS candidates are going to have low Vitamin D levels... being overweight somehow makes us more susceptible to this.

It didn't affect my surgery date :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
