5 months post-sleeve tomorrow & down 80lbs

Recommended Posts

I can't even believe that it'll be 5 months tomorrow since I've had this procedure. It's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. BEST! The 1st 2-3 months were an adjustment, but now I go out to dinner & to parties & do fine w/ food. I've learned to cut my food into much smaller pieces & I just slowly nibble & this allows me to keep up w/ my regular social activities w/ friends. I'm not afraid to just stop when I'm done & I take a lot of my leftovers home in a doggie bag:) Some days I'm super strict w/ healthy, low-fat Proteins & shakes, but I still have just a bite of what looks good--but I stop at a bite or 2. I could've NEVER stopped at a bite or 2 of the delicious stuff before this sleeve (maybe a bowl or 2)!!! Other days, I'll enjoy those favorite items, but I try to make sure to exercise on those days--even if it's just walking the dog.

I'm trying to walk 3-5 times a week & just started a weight lifting class twice a week for the last 3 weeks. I'm grateful to be so mobile again. I'm almost 6'0 and have gone from 268 to 188.

To the newbies, stick with your Protein first & don't get discouraged--keep moving. You've got some bright & beautiful days ahead of you!!!!

What a fabulous and inspiring message you have shared with us. It has really lifted my spirits although I stay in high spirits. Like you...I enjoy a super social active lifestyle with many friends and family and it's so easy to adapt our habits to fit the occasion without blowing it. We signed on for this great new way of life and it is truly great. And yes by getting the Proteins and the liquids we can write our own ticket. I am only 3 months & 42 lbs out but know I will reach your level soon. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
