I may have jumped the gun. Ive gone ahead and purchased my post op Vitamins. But i see that several people had troubles swallowing pills and have to use chewables. Is it because you cant take a big drink to get the pill down or is it something?

When you meet with the NUT she will tell you what Vitamins your programs wants... The chewable absorb into your system more rapidly..

Part of it can also be the size of the Vitamin. I bought the Calcium Citrate prior to surgery and after surgery it was difficult to swallow them, and also they can cause problems with the new opening from your pouch. I also take a pill for diabetes called Metformin, and I had to break them in half to take them. I got a chewable calcium citrate for the first month or so, and now I'm able to use the Citracel pills I originally bought with no problem. Keep in mind after your surgery, your system will need time to adjust. I had the bypass, and the size of my stomach is now the size of an egg, so a big pill can occupy quite a bit of space in there!

I just got mine in the mail. I got BariMelts in multi Vitamin, Biotin and B12. They are chewables that dissolve in in your mouth. I tasted them all this morning because I didn't want to risk trying for the first time post op. Not bad. Really sweet and fruity but mostly like a tums.

Tagyourit, those will taste different after surgery; trust me. Your taste changes a lot after surgery. It will return to normal, but things that tasted good prior may not taste as good after. Just thought I'd warn you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
