Why i cant tolerate food anymore?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 10 weeks post op, i was eating fine to the point that few days ago I was scared that I was eating too much, but all of the sudden and right after a very harsh acid reflux I started to feel pain when eating solid food to the point that i am afraid to eat anymore solid while I am OK with liquid and soft food!!

Does anyone experience something like this??

Just last night I experienced something like this. I didn't over eat but I gagged and vomited. I was really trying not to but I kept having to and only bile came up. Tmi, I know but I was really surprised coz I've been fine for a month, since the surgery. Then I tried to put something else in my system and voila, did it again. It was horrible so I was afraid to eat today. Thank goodness for muscle milk and Isopure to get my Protein. I just know I need to put more calories in coz I don't want to wreck my metabolism. Grrrrrrrr.

Good things come to good people.

You should check in with your surgeon if you can't keep anything down.

I go through cycles where eating feels more difficult-fighting against no appetite coupled with the discomfort of eating dense high Protein foods sometimes leaves me between choosing to live on mostly liquids, or well tolerated foods, not all of which are what I would consider ideal for my health and weight loss goals. For me, it all seems to balance out-I am down over 100 pounds total, 85 since surgery, six months ago, sometimes it really feels like a struggle!

For me, it all seems to balance out-I am down over 100 pounds total, 85 since surgery, six months ago, sometimes it really feels like a struggle!

This was exactly what happened with me.

I went to see my family doctor next day, he said I might have gastritis since it happened after I had a very high acid reflux which might leave my sleeve inflamed, he gave me 60 mg of ppl and asked me to take gaviscon before eating anything, he told me to stay on liquid for few days and avoid coffee, tomatoes, chocolates, orange and lemon juices.... Etc

I feel better today, much better actually

I ate scrambeled egg with some cheese on top and it was fine (no more pain) thank God

So my best bet would be the stomach acid which could inflame our sleeves every once in a while

Thank you guys and good luck

I am about 8 weeks post op and I have some discomfort digesting some foods, however for the most part I avoid certain foods. I basically stick to fish, chicken, shrimp, turkey, and vegetables. Some vegetables digest better than others, such as green Beans go down good even with seasonings, however broccoli seems to take more effort to digest. I also eat Beans cooked with smoked turkey. I have not tried any red meats yet, and will probably not do that for a while. I do not use any oils to cook my food right now, and when I eat at restaurants, I tell them no oil....none. Has anyone tried real eggs yet? I am so afraid to try, so I use egg beaters instead. I have not eaten salad yet and cannot wait to have some. I hope this is helpful. Also I stick to 3 ounces, not more than 4 at each meal.

I am 9 weeks out and I have tried steamed veggies and shrimp from Chinese restaurants, but I make it very clear, NO OIL, and I do not eat the white rice. I simply eat the steamed veggies and seafood. This has worked ok. I get excited, so I have to be careful that I do not eat more than the 3 ounce portion at a time that I am allowed. For some reason, I am still afraid to try real eggs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
