One month out of surgery and I'm feeling like this didn't do anything. In the last week I have gained 4 lbs from what? I don't know. I barely eat all day, Protein is my main goal, I drink so much Water and barely snack and when I do it's on pepperoni and cheese.... What am I doing wrong? I've started the gym last week and do an hour of cardio every day.. This is super discouraging and makes you want to give up. Can anyone help?

Hormones, where you are in your cycle, can wreak havoc on weight gain or loss. Also I would take a look at the sodium content of what you are eating. I can tell you right now you mention pepperoni and that's very high in sodium. If you are using a food journal like MyFitnessPal you can look at your daily sodium intake. Just my humble opinion. Keep plugging away.

It is most likely Water weight. It's near impossible to gain 4lbs of fat unless you're drinking ice cream shakes all day. It's possible you're not eating enough. How much Protein are you getting? What are you eating?

That's definitely the last thing I'm having! I've been trying to stay away from foods with carbs or high fats, I've been eating or attempting to eat 2 bacon pieces for Breakfast, turkey meatballs for lunch, and grilled chicken for dinner. Barely snacking in between and sipping on my Water and diet citrus green tea. The past two weekends I have traveled out of the city and had a cracker here and there or a piece of tortilla on a bite of a chick quesadilla but idk if that is what is doing it...

Something you said made me think- (bacon and pepperoni ) Like another poster said, maybe it's the sodium? Before my sleeve I was trying to eat low carb high Protein and I was consuming a lot of both foods because they are easy and I'm not too fond of chicken or fish.

I lost NOTHING. Actually I gained! Turns out I'm super sensitive to the sodium and nitrates in bacon and pepperoni. I've eliminated them from my diet and now I don't have to issues with retaining Water. I may have other issues, but that one is gone at least.... ;)

Try not to get frustrated (easy to say huh?) but I truly believe the correlation of stress making weight loss more difficult. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and I know I have to back away from the scale and see how my clothes fit (totally different). I also need to watch comparing myself to others- we are all different- starting weights, previous diets, medical conditions that factor in.

So, deep breath- you have got this! It's awesome you joined a gym. Good luck!

@@brittanylau same exact thing happened to me.

1. wasn't losing

2. felt like surgery was a mistake

3. was sick daily

but you just keep doing the right thing and the weight will come off. you seem to be in the dreaded 3 week stall. don't give up. it will work. just keep going! and make sure you are eating ENOUGH. this was a big issue for me. i added more fat and it's been better for me even at this tail end of my journey.

You may not be getting enough calories. Try changing things around. It could be too much sodium or even your period causing Water retention. Hang in there!

Any ideas of what else I could have to increase calorie count? I've been trying to stay away from carbs now and I haven't gotten a period since right before surgery (yay for pcos) so I don't even know if it's that.. It is so frustrating!

I stopped using myfitnesspal just because I felt like the calories it said I should be taking in was no where close to what I could meet.. I'm so lost in this journey right now because I don't even know what I can eat anymore!

@@brittanylau You could add some veggies and fruits or healthy fats (avocado). My plan recommends protein/produce. Add a high Protein snack but avoid processed meats (too much sodium). Stick with grilled chicken, fish, greek yogurt (watch the sugar content), cheese, tuna, etc for Protein. My NUT told me I should be eating 5-6 times a day - with about 3 hours in between - focusing on protein and then produce (veggies, fruit, sweet potato). Of course, I'm still pre-surgery so don't know how I will do either. Stay off the scale, take your measurements and keep on plan - you'll be fine!

you can still use myfitnesspal as a log - just ignore it's calorie goals and simply use it as a log - you'll still be able to see how many calories, grams of Protein, carbs, fat and mg of sodium you are taking in.

Without logging in something (even if it is manually in a notebook or on an excel spreadsheet) you won't know how much Protein etc you are getting - very hard to keep track in your head.

You mentioned "barely snacking"...how much is barely? and what are the Snacks? Again this is where tracking would help - that barely snacking could be more than you think.

If you are getting your protein and still need to get your calories up a little - add non starchy veggies - think green - broccoli, green Beans, spinach etc

Other options for protein:

  • nonfat, no sugar added greek yogurt - oikos triple zero and dannon light and fit greek tend to be popular options.
  • low fat cottage cheese or part skim ricotta cheese
  • tuna or salmon pouches - high protein, low carb and come in some great flavors as well as plain

I'm still pre-surgery so take my opinion for what it's worth. I'd add Protein and get rid of tortilla. Save that room for Protein.< /p>

Actually - I'd skip the veggies until you can eat more and have protein. I don't think you're having enough calories either.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
