moppet 19 Posted June 6, 2016 Hi. I was sleeved 4/25. I went into surgery with my period - and I've basically had it every day since. So for over a month I've been spotting followed by a heavier flow. My surgeon says my hormones are on over drive. Anyone experience anything similar? Anyone have any idea when I can expect my cycle to be back on track? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
angelb429 3 Posted June 6, 2016 Got mine the day I came home from surgery, which was about a week early. Heavier and longer usual. I attributed it to the blood thinner shots they gave me. Sent from my SM-N915V using the BariatricPal App
cindyw41 761 Posted June 6, 2016 I started the day of surgery and it lasted a whole month! They still last longer than normal even at 5 months out Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
cseidman 175 Posted June 6, 2016 Yes, I've been bleeding off and on for the 4 weeks since surgery. But, my doc also had me stop my bc pills, so my hormones are basically just all screwed up right now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

phonicea42 1 Posted June 6, 2016 I'm having the total opposite I had my surgery 05/18 and I'm a week late, I was wondering today was it because of the surgery? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) Hopefully it's that and not that you are pregnant @@phonicea42 . You may want to speak to your Dr if you usually have normal periods. Edited June 6, 2016 by KristenLe
UsernameTaken 283 Posted June 6, 2016 I had mine a week before surgery, then I got it again 2 days after surgery... I am now 5 days late and know for sure I am not pregnant. I also stopped my bc a month before surgery so I am sure it's all out of whack.

jersey0601 99 Posted June 6, 2016 I have a different yet same experience .... In my 40's and last cycle was sept 2015 . 4 days after surgery my cycle started . I read some funny posts in the "50's" posts that some women through menopause also got a period or two after surgery ... So yes, hormones are affected and weight loss also is a factor .... ValerieDee1975 55 Posted June 6, 2016 I was sleeved just over a year ago and my period is just now getting back to sort of normal. I have an IUD and before surgery very rarely had a period so I couldn;t really keep track...I have always had weird periods anyway..but after surgery they were VERY frequent if not constant and tended to be very heavy.....now ( I was sleeved on May 13, 2015) I get them like every month and a half....some are heavy some not and I do tend to have spotting on and off in between (dark brownish, like old blood)...just make sure you always have something with you is my advice...since every body is different you never know when you will "even out"...so just go with the flow...pun intended. lol My gyno had never really heard of this surgery making hormones go wacko so she had me to ALL KINDS of testing...many painful to rule out stuff...would not want to do that again! I think she is fairly convinced my wacky periods are due to the surgery now...but this last year was hard in that area! Good luck sister! ValerieDee1975 55 Posted June 6, 2016 Ladies, don't forget that since it does mess up our hormones we tend towards super fertility...so take EXTRA precautions for at least the 1st year after surgery...tons of women get pregnant in the 1st year after bariatric surgery
