7 weeks Post-op FULL OF REGRETS

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 weeks post op Sleeve and I been sick for 5 days straight haven't been able to eat or drink anything, anything I try to intake I throw up. Has this happened to anybody? I feel so miserable and don't know what to do? I been to the hospital and they gave me fluids and some medicine and I still don't feel better. if I would of known it was like this before I gotten it I would of never gotten this surgery, went from being so excited to so depressed.

It's not "like that" for most people. I have felt great ever since my surgery. Maybe you are actually sick? Cold? Flu? Something temporary? Take it easy.

this is certainly not normal. if it isn't better on the medicine they gave you then you should call the doctors office and let them know.

that's what I figured this can't be normal because I can't even drink Water without throwing it up, and a week ago I was fine, now my chest hurts I always have to throw up whatever I intake, I'm just not happy I'm weak and don't feel good

What does your surgeon say? Did they contact your surgeon when you were in the ER? If you haven't called your surgeon yet do it asap. You could have a stricture or something. This is not normal.

Either you really are sick with a bug or such, or something has gone wrong. Either way, you'll get better results from talking to your surgeon instead of posting on a message board :) Hopefully your doctor is nearby rather than in Mexico. In your case, I wouldn't wait to get help. It could be serious. Do something now.

5 days of not drinking will result in severe dehydration... Best plan is for you to go to the ER or a walk in place ASAP... You can't sit by watching medical issues get worse, you need to take action... Toss the regret away because there is no changing having the surgery but you do need to have whatever is going on addressed.

2 days ago I went to my nearest ER and they gave me fluids and they don't have experience with sleeve surgery and they said if I don't feel better to go to my surgeon where I did surgery and that's what I'm doing now

Get your potassium checked. That happened to me and I was admitted to replenish fluids and get 10 bags of potassium.

I'm on the same boat. I was sleeved in late April. I saw my GP on Friday and she said that it could be a stricture. Basically it's when your stomach heals but the hole entering your stomach is too small. The only way to fix it is to get a balloon dilation. Apparently it's not uncommon. I've seen multiple people here with the same symptoms and all have said the same. I was really worried until I spoke to my doctor. Try to stay as hydrated as you can and go see your doctor.

I found Gatorade was easier to keep down and they prescribed Ondansetron for the nausea until I can get seen by my Gastroenterology doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
