beachwalker4rny 95 Posted June 5, 2016 Hi ladies, I am almost 5 months out from gastric bypass. In about 2 weeks I will have blood work done to see if I am deficient in anything. I am scheduled shortly after that to have an outpatient D&C. I was told that I would be under anesthesia for about 5 minutes. The Dr. also told me he has done so many that he could do it with his eyes closed (insert eye roll here) He gave me the impression that it is a pretty minor procedure with no down time to recover. My question is this, when his scheduler called me to set up a day she told me I would be required to stop all Vitamins a WEEK before!! I am not one to disobey medical instructions but this seems excessive. I am not on any blood thinners. The only thing I am taking are the bariatric Multi Vitamins, calcium chews with D3 and nasal B12. I also got the impression that they just tell people this across the board because they don't know what supplements people are taking. I am a little afraid to stop all vitamins for a week. I am considering just stopping them three days before. What are your thoughts on this? Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks in advance.
Read2016 658 Posted June 5, 2016 I had a D and C but haven't had the sleeve yet.... I don't recall having to stop Vitamins but again every doctor does things different... Possibly the Vitamins do thin the blood... The D and C was no big deal... Just be aware you could get your period soon after... I got a scare because when they called a few days later to ask how I was the doing, the woman on the phone said you won't get your period for 4-6 weeks... Mine started about two days later I freaked out... When I went to the doctor for my follow up he was like of that always happens... Other than that is was no big deal. jennmonterrozo 139 Posted June 5, 2016 I would call them back and explain why you have to take Vitamins daily. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
WLSResources/ClothingExch 3,444 Posted June 5, 2016 Instead of taking a poll, 1. Speak with the RD at your bariatric practice. And despite my primary advice not to take a poll, I'm no RD, but I don't see a problem with just one week without supplements. and 2. Run it by the gyn again. Find out why the instruction to do without for a full week. There may be an important reason.

Good idea, I will definitely run it by the dietitian and see if she thinks going without my Vitamins for a week will be ok. Thanks!
