I met with my RD last Friday and we set some goals for me to work on. One was to eat lunch every day. I'm a huge meal skipper. Any who....I'm looking for ideas for easy to fix lunches. I don't work so portability isn't an issue. Any ideas would be great!!

I'm pre-op too, I've been doing Protein no carbs... Got to say trader joe's is my go to place to get easy things to make... For lunch I do grilled chicken, tuna or chicken sausage... I'll cute them up add cheese, black olives, spinach etc... I work so I tend to learn towards things that travel easy... I'm trying to drop a few pounds before surgery... Down 7 since May 25th, it's a struggle... I think your lunch choices would depend on what you like... A Greek yogurt with fruits and hemp seed is another I have for lunch...

If you are a meal skipper, have you thought about replacing that one meal with a Protein shake? My nutritionist recommended doing that from the beginning. For me, I used one for my Breakfast, but for you, perhaps that could be lunch instead. :)

On the other hand, for lunch, I typically take leftovers from dinner the night before. My husband and I purposely cook some extra dinner so that I can pack my lunch when putting away dinner. It's easy and doesn't require a ton of thought!

Hope these ideas help! Good luck!

@@jennmonterrozo - I used my lunch to practice eating slowly, small bites and many chews. It was good practice for week 3 post op. I like to grill extra's and use those for lunch. Worse comes to worse, ham roll up works great.

When you make dinner monday night, make a little extra chicken for Tuesdays lunch and make a big salad to go with it.

Also, now is the time to cut out carbs as well as sugar! Cutting the sugar addiction is hard but so worth it! I felt it was very freeing!

I'm trying high Protein low carb pre-op. The scale has not been kind however! For lunch I usually eat grilled or rotisserie chicken with a tossed salad, tuna, chicken salad, sliced grilled chicken with peppers, onions, and mushrooms with cheese and sour cream (fajita without tortilla), black Beans with cheese, tomatoes with fresh mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar. And as mentioned - have a Meal Replacement Protein Shake.

I also am on my pre-op new way of eating. I try to cook up a little extra chicken cut it up for a small salad, one of my favorites is taking deli lunch meat ( usually turkey)wrapping it around a sliced cucumber. It's light, refreshing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
