How long do you need to take the Protein Shakes for

Recommended Posts

Do you have a post op instruction packet from the Nut? If so, your answer will be in there for you... Each surgeon moves people along the food stages at a different pace.

plans vary - and even within the plan it will vary based on your own personal progress.

for me, and my plan my doctor wanted me to stop using them on a regular basis at one month, preferring I get my Protein from food instead. Do I still have them? occasionally when I don't have time to cook a meal or something, or if I get to the evening and my Protein is lower than it should be - but it's maybe twice a week now or so.

My thought is most important to get your Protein in, as a quick Protein fix shakes work well... I'm told to move away from them at three weeks and towards real food... I do feel Protein Shakes will be my go to for days I'm coming up short on protein.

I am 8 months post op and still having a shale for Breakfast most days. That's just my choice. It helps me get in my Protein and i can sip it while driving to work

Depends on when you can get your Protein needs met by food. Are you tracking your grams of Protein? Do you know your minimum amount? Are you meeting it?

I truly couldn't meet my protein needs without shakes till well after a year out and still use a shake or bar or Protein powder Mug Cake most days to get it all in and I am at goal and 2.5 years out. But my capacity is very small, smaller than typical I believe.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
