anyone using Vyvance (binging med) with Lapband?

Recommended Posts

I've done great with lapband but hasn't been easy. Now, i'm having a hard time not eating even even when i'm perfectly full. Sadly, other issues are causing this to be the most stressful time period of my life (it's REALLY high!), and i'm definitely a stress eater. still, I can't get past this problem and I don't want it to get out of control; hence, even more stress. i'm within 40 pounds of my goal, which is amazing. most importantly, I'm freaked out about the possibility of gaining anything I've lost. what is wrong with me. thx.

wow. no replies to my question. not even anything negative.

I've been doing better. binge 1 week, diet 2 weeks. maintaining weight loss. if I diet strictly, the lapband seems to help; otherwise, it's like nothing is there. I discovered Protein bars of any kind seem to empower binging.

I am new here but I am post WLS 5 years out. I thought Vyvance was a ADD med. hmm never heard of it used that way, but I feel your pain. I am the same way and I have put on 30 lbs. I'm struggling too with binge eating. Especially stress eat and I don't know how to stop.

I agree, you might need a fill. I don't binge eat, but I have been able to eat a lot more than I should be able to. I just went for a new fill Thursday. I had a regain of 40 something pounds before I decided to stop my over eating. I was always hungry and didn't have much restriction at all. I'm hoping this fill helps we lose the rest of my regain.

Do you think you might need a fill?

I have binge eating disorder. Right now I'm in therapy for it but I'm considering a trial of Vyvanse.

My therapist also mentioned Contrave as being helpful for binge eating.

You and I should message each other. Maybe we can offer each other tips and support:)

thanks for responses. my binging is better and at least i'm narrowly maintaining my 100 pound loss, which is my goal.

i was mostly just curious about the binging med, but i guess it's off topic in a lapband blog. still, it is a serious psychological issue for some of us. it's probably the SAME psychological issue we had BEFORE lapband. GET HELP OF SOME KIND! for me, because i know it worked, i try to go back to the place in my head where i was just before surgery. maybe when i started liquid only. it was great (almost miraculous) to get thru each day and i questioned at the time the source of the newfound strength. i fed off my own empowerment. i remember being more excited about successfully getting thru each day than the weight loss. not that i wasn't excited about the weight loss, but the years and years of defeat and lack of discipline had taken a serious toll. i had my life back. now, i take a little more time to process all those details from the standpoint of being 100 AWESOME pounds lighter. sometimes it takes a while & a few bags of m&m's sacrifice their lives ...

yes, i probably need a fill. sadly, dr is 150 miles away so it turns into a time consuming, all-day thing. i honestly think my binge problem is the bigger issue. if i follow the lapband basics (i hate rules), i still do pretty good as far as restriction, etc. the last fill i got, the dr said my band had 90#s pressure before fill and didn't need. it spit back some of the fill into the syringe, supposedly.. I've probably had 4 or 5 fills.

at some point, if i live long enough, i'll ponder what it takes psychologically to make this a lifestyle instead of a diet. maybe then i can tackle the remaining 30 or 40 pounds of my goal.

*adjust ... my body is different at 225#'s than 325. even while losing big, i had to eat 4 or 5 times a day or more ... do whatever it takes as long as it works.

*if i binge or feel tempted to binge, i don't do anything until i'm at the right place psychologically. then, i go back to liquid only for a day or 2. allow yourself liquids with a few extra carbs - great fruit smoothies, etc. THEN, get strictly back to hellish basics.

*exercise, exercise, exercise.

*premier Protein drink is great, especially blended with ice. (let sit awhile, then remove foam; otherwise, gas.)

btw, I've NEVER eaten only 3 cups of food per day. wth? lol

I don't have a band, I had the sleeve. But one of the great quotes in this forum is they operate on your stomach not your head.

Whatever issues we have with food (and I have been a binge eater) the stomach surgery is only one tool and it won't solve them. Have you done therapy to figure out what is behind the binge eating? If not I highly recommend it. I did a couple of years of therapy before my sleeve and still have those "is this a hunger cookie or an anger cookie" moments.

On too of that, maintenance Isn't sexy. It's not the rush and the thrill with all the validation that losing is. It's boring and doesn't provide rewards the way losing does, so it's not nearly as motivating.

I have to admit I clicked here because my nephew takes Vyvance for ADD and is underweight... I'm sure his parents are on top of it, but it definitely seems to kill his appetite.

Hi there I dont come on here often but did a search . I am hopefully starting this in a couple weeks I have to titrate off my wellbutrin first but I will let you know how it is going. This drug has been approved by FDA for BED .

I know what you are going through I had lapband a year ago and still struggle with the hunger in my brain , I knew it was going to be work but I need some help with it and think it will help a couple of other issues I have also.

I have a friend that has lost 72 lbs on Vyvanse. She said she is rarely hungry, she didn't have WLS though. Her Psychiatrist prescribed it.

Vyvanse is an amphetamine & used for treatment of ADHD not for dirty to check(but the anxiety eating is gonna be the thing to focus on. I'm so sorry I know this sucks but you can do this.

The vyvanse seems to be going well for me along with the Wellbutrin so far its helping , I had to approach my Dr with

something I had printed off the vyvanse site because about it being approved for BED other wise she would have never

given me the med as you do have to use caution . I was running like crazy and it helped with getting weight off but only increased my appetite even more. I have been doing a lot of research into Keto way of eating and its working for me

and when you get into it a lot of your carb cravings go away because you are getting your energy from fat not carbs. I

don't go crazy with the exercise I have been moderate (eg walking) and the weight has been coming off.

Thank you so much for responding. Unless I'm mistaken, yours is the only response from someone specifically taking the med for BES. I'm glad you're making progress. Please update when you can. I'm still maintaining on my own, but increasingly difficult. However, the source of the problem is probably because life is more difficult. I've been the sole caretaker for 2 1/2 years for a parent with Alzheimers, not to mention my demanding job. I know ... wah, wah, wah, but it's a nightmare that gets worse everyday. Frankly, I'm astonished that I've kept off the 100 pounds, but I'm SSSOOOO thankful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
