Okay, just had my sleep study last night and have my follow up is on Tuesday, June 7th. It was the most uncomfortable process. I hope I slept enough for them to see if I have sleep Apnea. Anyone have issues too and were they still able to determine??

Yes, I did the at home study and it was awful. The strap came off at one point. I actually spent half the night awake in a recliner. To my shock and horror, they said I have very mild sleep apnea, and now I will have to use the machine for at least the next 3 months for insurance to pay for it. It's very hard to adjust to wearing this mask at night, and my one restful sleep is now disrupted by this mask. The things we have to go through for the surgery!

Yes. Mine was a great help. The polysomnogram diagnosed sleep segments of no longer than 20 minutes at a time and my heart rated maxed out at 180+ during one episode. I met with the doctor who disclosed I had severe sleep apnea. I got fitted with mask and bipap machine and promptly slept like crap the first night. However, a adjusted the mask and gave it another shot and have not had another poor night of sleep since. 6 hours now is better than 9-10 before and I don't fall asleep at work or watching TV. In short, the sleep study where I barely slept was good enough for a diagnosis. Good luck!

Annie, thanks for the reply. Yes, the lady came in 2 times to adjust my wires. I think I slept about 4 hours, but felt like no sleep at all and woke up miserable. That stinks to have to wait that long for insurance to cover! Come on insurance we are trying to get healthy here so health costs go down. Lol

"The Yapper" thanks for the reply. I'm really hoping I don't have to do that again. I'm also afraid to wearing a machine too, esp with my hubs. Does it make a lot of sound??

Annie, my sleep was horrible on my test too. I was surprised it was enough for them to decide I had sleep apnea. Now I'm forced to use the machine until surgery at minimum. I don't love my cpap, but can tolerate it now. I just had my follow up appointment now that I've had the machine for 6 weeks. They showed me how much better my apneas are (none compared to 12+ an hour before) and suggested that my problems are based on me having the wrong mask. So, i'll be getting a new mask soon.

Jen, the cpap machine is silent until I take off the mask and then you hear blowing air. I just turn off the machine prior to taking off the mask and it doesn't disturb my husband at all.

Makes no more sound than a small fan, even less than most. You hubby will likely sacrifice that bit of noise for a well-rested you if you have sleep apnea.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
