Canadians: Where do you buy protein?

Recommended Posts

I've just moved back to Canada after spending a decade state-side. This was little more than a month after FINALLY finding a brand of Protein supplement that I actually enjoyed after my tastes were all thrown off post-surgery. Naturally this brand is not available in Canada, either for purchase or shipping, so I now have to start my search all over again.

I'm in southern Ontario and found a GNC at a mall where I bought a couple of tubs of Total Lean 25 (which I'd used pre-surgery) to hold me over until I can find something I like better. The carbs are too high to really be my go-to, and quite frankly they don't taste as nice as the US versions did, so I'm definitely still on the hunt.

What are the big nutrition stores here where people get their protein supplements? All I know are GNC, and a friend mentioned Popeye's, which I have yet to check out. Does anyone know of anywhere that either sells or gives sample sizes of a variety of brands? Any good online resources I should know about?

Thanks! :D

costco carries Premier Protein in chocolate and vanilla. Both are good. I blend them with small amounts of fruit and ice. Yum!

How is Isopure? ?? Any feedback?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am not a fan of Isopure, I drunk 2 of them the night before my surgery because yur not allowed anything after surgery until yur leak test (well atleast I wasn't) so that held me over. But the taste is very acquired... very strange after taste but good source of Protein

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
