That is your body's natural reaction to having something irritating in your stoma. It's trying to lubricate the area to get whatever it is out. Scary, but it showing that your body is working!

thanks so much for your quick response. Yes, it was kinda scary, and very gross. I just wasnt sure what it was, when the food didnt come up and it did. Is this common? Does it happen everytime something doesnt agree with your band?

In my own experience, it only happened when something on the large-ish side was stuck and didn't move readily. It did not happen every time. The first thing I learned, though, was to let it OUT rather than try to suppress the excess salivation. That way lies, well, more of the same.

This was your first taste of negative behavioral reinforcement. Did it teach you anything? :) Whatever/however you were eating just prior to that experience is something you should not try again. You may even have just taken that one bite too many. You're a real bandster!!

Slime is gross! And it just amazes me how much and how fast my body creates it in times of "distress"!! But, I see it's purpose and agree that sliming usually means we've done something wrong that we should try to avoid in the future!

It always happens to me when something gets stuck but I've had it happen on occasion just when something is hung up a little and isn't necessarily all the way stuck. At any rate, sliming should be a rare occurrance!

The same thing happened to me so I called my DR & they said this is what happens when the stomach is trying to digest, you will keep making this slime to make the food go up or through. Hope that helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
