What does "full" feel like

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days post op eating puree'd foods and I don't ever feel "full" everyone said "you will know when you need to stop eating" but I don't feel that way. I never feel super full. Is this normal?

you shouldn't feel "super full". That means you had too much.

for now you should just measure your food and eat the amount recommended. It takes time for nerves and sensation to return where your stomach is. I found I had an increased sensation of full and appetite at 3 months.

do you get burpy or does your nose drip? those are common signs that you've had a little bit more than needed.

I haven't been burpy or anything but was able to eat a whole 4 oz of puree'd refried Beans and was concerned if that's considered a lot for only being this far out? I don't mean "super full" I guess maybe "fully satisfied" would have been better words

Full feels very different post-op. Once you move to more solid foods you should feel it. But it's not in your tummy anymore -- instead it's at the top of my stomach / lower esophagus. I can only eat 4 or 5 bites before feeling an uncomfortable pressure in my chest. I also get the hiccups when I eat too much or too fast. I am very grateful for my restriction -- almost 7 months out and down 92 lbs. :)

I feel pressure on my chest and I get burpy...

and I feel like my throat closes up a little bit?

I'm almost 4 months out and I still have to be sure to chew my meat very thoroughly to not feel restricted after one bite.

Softer foods like refried Beans will go down easy so it's important to be keeping track of portion sizes.

Something that really helped me was getting a food scale! At first I was hesitant because I thought it would take up my limited counter space but the one I got is sleek and is SOOOO useful. I can measure out exactly a certain amount so I know how much I should be eating and not overserve myself, or underserve myself.

Then I know if it takes me a long time to eat something, it's okay, because it's the right portion, and I'll know exactly how much Protein I'm getting.

This is the scale I got:

I've also seen scales for sale at some grocery stores!

I'm so scared to find out so I literally take three bites and I'm done. Plus I'm not at all hungry so I almost have to force myself to eat. I'm still on soft foods so really haven't had anything major.

3 years out - It feels like the food gets caught in a bottleneck at the entrance of my stomach, it becomes quite uncomfortable if I try to keep eating;

I may get a runny nose, burp 50 times, or feel a little dizzy;

If it's too many sweets that I'm eating I know I've had too much if I start to think I may pass out and have to go lay down for a while until the impending sugar coma passes.

For me it is not really a feeling of being full. It's either 1 of the above or simply feeling like one more bite would be disgusting. Not a traditional full feeling. It manifests itself in different ways depending on what I eat and when I'm eating it.

I've noticed my stomach growls a lot which used to mean I was hungry and needed to eat, but now it growls but I'm not actually hungry. It's weird.

Yep mine just growls at random - I am burping pretty much after every swallow at the moment (about 2 start week 2 of post op free liquids). I figure it will settle down eventually to the new normal. It just takes so long to drink anything - about an hour to get 200ml down at the moment.

It's funny you say that. I am 9 days out and it is such a different feeling. Kinda gurgling feeling. I thought that you needed to wait 14 days until puréed food.

@@MCSleeve81 I don't know what plan your surgeon has you on but a lot of surgeons have different diet plans. Yesterday was the first day I had any mushies. But just had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and definitely got full. I definitely think I just need time to find out what I'm used to.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
