Hello, so today my paperwork was sent to insurance!! Yay!!

I do have some questions for people with the same insurance:

How long was your wait for approval? Did you have any problems? Also I have met my deductible and I'm in TX, does anyone know how much the cost of surgery was? If you have any more information to share please do.

I also have BCBS Federal, Basic Option. I do not have a deductible, so didn't have to worry about that. I had my surgery at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and between the cost of surgeons, surgery center, procedure, hospital stay, etc. I believe it was around $70,000 ($20K for doctors, $50K for everything else).

It took approximately 2 weeks to hear back after paperwork was submitted. Good Luck!

It took about a week to 10 days to hear back on my approval. I also have basic option and no deductible just copay for hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist etc.

I have BCBS FEP and I heard within 5 days of submission that I had been approved. I had surgery at a Center of Excellence. I already met my deductible also. Once I got approval I talked with someone at BCBS customer service and they confirmed what I would have to pay up front upon admittance on surgery day. Part of my pre-surgery brief a coordinator from the hospital called to confirm what I had to pay.

My out of pocket costs were minimal. Only thing I had to pay for were the copays for the visits with the Psychologist so far. I did not have any out of pocket costs on hospital because they use the Bariatric Institute floor for your stay in the hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
