leliwhoaoh 27 Posted June 3, 2016 Hello my fellow bariatric buddies! TGIF! I just had my 1st appointment with my NUT yesterday and we touched on a subject that hasn't really been discussed at my monthly weight ins, and that's the anesthesia consult. For those of you who have gone through this process, what was it like? I know its a necessary process but I'm curious what goes down in this consult. If anyone can shed a little light on this, that'd be great thanks! Also, shouts out to me for loosing 5 pounds since my May 23rd weigh in, real happy about that :]
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted June 3, 2016 it's an opportunity to find out what you can expect from that standpoint as the surgery goes, and also a chance for them to ask you detailed questions to make sure the anesthesia plan is safe and effective for you. They will go over drug interactions, and also past history with pain meds and anesthesia. I was given the option of a nerve block, which hurt like **** but was worth it afterwards as it really was good, effective, safe long lasting pain relief. I was also able to discuss with them my post op pain management plan because from other surgeries I had learned that one pain med worked well for me, but another did not work at all for me. so the plan we came up with was tailored to my needs and worked out quite well in the end. Clarevoyant 347 Posted June 3, 2016 Interesting, my surgeon has not mentioned this but I do still have some time.
jennmonterrozo 139 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) I have found that it's usually a hospital specific thing. I've had several surgeries and only one hospital does the anesthesia consult. The other two hospitals just had anesthesia come speak to me as I was getting prepped for actual surgery.
