Floridian79 9 Posted June 3, 2016 Hello ladies, Yesterday i received my first shot of Depo-Provera. I was not able to go with pills or IUDs due to contraindications with my anti-rejection medications for the kidney transplant i just received in march. Any thoughts on what to expect? All information is greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend....!!!

catwoman7 11,220 Posted June 3, 2016 all I can say is, I gained a *ton* of weight on it (like around 45 lbs) when I was on it about 20 years ago. I asked them if I was going to keep gaining, or if it would level off. She said "it depends". That's the minute I decided to go off it.
provenzee 262 Posted June 3, 2016 My Gyno told me not to use it, because it would make me gain weight. I know from personal experience that the pill made me gain about 30lbs over the course of a year as well, but she said the shot would be even worse. I think my only option at this point is an IUD...I'm just keeping it natural for now lol

BCs 1000 364 Posted June 3, 2016 I used it 15 years ago. I was heavy, but I don't think it had anything to do with the depo. No other side effects. Loved that it stopped my period all together . Be careful when you come off it. I was told it would be months until I could get pregnant, but it only took a month.
Kyn13 215 Posted June 25, 2016 So everyone's body is different which means it's going to process it differently. Some ppl take forever to get pregnant(years) or it can be the next month. As for me I was on it for 8 yrs and gained 10-15 lbs for every yr I was on it. It is also one of the reasons I have hell losing weight. I've been off the shot for 2 yrs now and still not pregnant. Although we decided to stop trying in jan when I started this journey. The only up side to the depo was no period Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App
