Long term vsg food consumption

Recommended Posts

I was watching vsg journey vids on YouTube and came across a guy from Chicago that is 2half years out and can now eat a steak meal, and I'm talking a 10oz steak with baked potato and veg, how is that possible? Also seen the DR weinman vid and he said research shows after 5 years bariatric patients can eat a full plate of food, any veterans out there who can confirm this?

Confirmed at 3.5 years. Not sure about a 10 oz steak AND the whole potato, but I could do damage to both. However, even though I've eaten 1.5-2 cups, I don't make a habit of it. Some people have more restriction, but pretty much everyone has increased capacity compared to the first year.

Yes I think he might of been eating larger portions for some time and maybe stretched his sleeve, my bariatric team said it's possible to stretch if you don't stick to the plan.

I'm 4 years out. I can still only eat about 3-4ounces of Protein. I still have very good restriction with Protein dense meals.

I'm 1.5 years out and there is absolutely no way I would be able to eat a steak dinner in 6 more months, or for a very long time, if ever. I still max out at 4 oz of anything, sometimes sooner with really dense Protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
