Mermaid out of water! (My journey)

Recommended Posts

Today was a horrible day. Family got together for the holiday with a nice cook out. I felt so left out and longing for the ability to partake. It was not even fattening foods for the most part.

I'm so completely over Protein shakes, too. The only one I don't have to choke down is the slim fast advanced (the 20g Protein one) in caramel latte. Best day: went to Outback with the family for Father's Day and had myself a very tasty, delicious and satisfying bowl of French onion Soup broth. Ordered it without cheese (the best part) or bread or even the onions. And I'm sure the sodium was high, but damn that was sooooo good! First time I've felt satiated since surgery!

I'm in Tampa, Florida too! My pre-surgery packet was submitted yesterday to my insurance company so I just have to wait for an approval. I'm having surgery in plant city though. How are you feeling today ladies?

Feeling good! Accompanied my parents to a winery and stares at things. (I'm not a drinker anyways). Moving on to pureed food is interesting and I get bored of eating!

I'm glad to hear that you're doing good. What part of Tampa are you in? I'm in the Westchase part of town.

I had my 2 week post op today. Feeling pretty much back to normal, everything healing well. Dabbling in purée and bites of mushy foods. Bought a Fitbit (if you knew me you'd know that's completely out of character for me ). I live in Brooksville.

Wonderful! I have a fit bit and I really enjoy it. For some reason they gave me my 2 week appointment... 3 weeks after surgery lol!

Dr. Dietrick switched to Florida Hospital Physicians Group. Moved down the hall too. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Interesting. That may have to do with the random extra bill I got for them. Thank you for the heads up!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
