Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

So I finally heard it tonight!

I actually have to say that I agree with her. I "cheated", too.

I cheated today when I drove to the store instead of walking. I cheated when I bought chicken and ground beef instead of raising and slaughtering my own animals. I cheat when I use the washing machine, dishwasher, vacuum, toilet. I screwed the pooch when I had drugs administered for the birth of both my kids and my gall bladder surgery. I cheated when I had brain surgery instead of willing my lemon sized brain tumor away.

I'm a cheater. No shame in my game. Cuz I'm hot, too.

Good for you Craig! I wouldn't worry what others say. If people consider WLS as a form of cheating, then we all are cheating ourselves from the many illnesses that comes with obesity. Consider me a cheater!!!

I think we are here for support only and really not to play what happened and imply that the poster is not telling the truth. He posted what he wanted us to know and asked for support. that's all!!!

So I'm sitting here watching tv with my family and I'm told that I cheated because I had the gastric sleeve. My own wife!!! I'm two months out and down to 185 from 275 at my biggest. This is a bummer for me to hear that! Yes I had the surgery but it's a tool and there is a lot of work that goes along with it. I'm really bummed and just wanted to vent, sorry.

So, you're just sitting there watching TV with the family and your wife spews out, "You cheated because you had the gastric sleeve". Really? Just like that?

I acknowledge that what she said was hurtful and spiteful. Not well done by her.

BUT

Even a pancake has two sides.

What preempted her saying such a thing???? Were you having an argument? Were you having a discussion about weight loss and something was said that hit a nerve with her?

I'm having a difficult time finding the connection between just watching TV with the family and your wife deliberately demeaning you----in front of the family.

What really happened, Friend?

I think we are here for support only and really not to play what happened and imply that the poster is not telling the truth. He posted what he wanted us to know and asked for support. that's all!!!

At first I was wondering what in the world you were talking about but then I saw that post. Yeah, that response was, uhm... Yeah.

Yeah people don't understand this definitely is not an easy way out. This has been a tool like everyone said but we definitely have a whole bunch of other stuff to deal with and the realization that emotions had a lot to do with why we were where we where

I thank god I made this decision but like you I've had to deal with the snarky comments and no help from my family. One day at a time and I'm still only 3 wks post op so I have a very long way to go

Out of curiosity is she overweight? Possible jealousy or insecurity on her part?

No you did not take the easy way out. You surgically altered your stomach, committed to pre-WLS & post-WLS diets and lifestyle changes.

The "easy way out" would be to do nothing, die an earlier death and have health related issues due to obesity.

I can't see how it's easy. You have to do that awful pre op diet, then surgery recovery, liquid foods, puréed and then solids. You might be "lucky" and get lactose intolerance, fructose intolerance, reflux, need to learn to judge how much you can eat, if you eat too quick or too much you might throw up. It's hard work!

Oh yeah, tell her one thing. The only thing I am going to cheat is an earlier demise by losing my excess body weight".

Don't be mad at her remark. Discuss why she felt that way.

Exactly! As I was reading this thread, I was thinking the same thing.

I hope everything worked out.

My dh didn't want me to have surgery but he wasn't not supportive. Now after surgery, he's been amazing. I think he was just scared initially.

We had the talk, and she really supported me before hand and will continue to support me again. I did it for my family, I have a 8 year old daughter that I want to be around to walk her down the aisle one day. I think it was just a bad day for her. There was no fight or argument before hand, just having our weekly family movie night so I don't know what brought it on? I'm glad I get support from here, it's a blessing. Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone.. post-287988-14654394291503_thumb.jpg

Well, that is not right. Sleeve surgery is hardly the easy way out. The surgery for me was a piece of cake, but the aftermath has been anything but! Missing all my favorite foods, longing for a couple of pieces of pizza and a few beers, and knowing that its all in the past. I loved food, and now I exist on Protein Shakes, broth , eggbeaters, and small meals for dinner that cause me discomfort because I always eat one bite too much!! Yeah, this was the easy wy out. That's why I told NO one except for my wife, not even my two daughters. I don't feel like being judged! Unlike you my friend, My wife has been extremely supportive and unbelievable in helping me get through this. I could not have done it without her. I hope your wife comes around and understands the sacrifice you have made, and not just a temporary one but for ever!!!! Good luck

Wow.

Just wow.

Those few words can move mountains, rock the world, wake the dead.

Perfect.

And I'm saving it to read over and over.

I was asked earlier today what made me lose weight so quickly.

I usually don't tell people I had wls but for some strange reason I did this time. Maybe because it was a coworker? Idk.

All I know is, is the fact that as soon as those words came out of my mouth I instantly "defended" myself and my "actions"

I right away said things like "I work really hard, I eat healthy, I watch what I eat, I track everything, I don't eat hardly any carbs, sugar or grease, I watch my portions, I measure everything, I eat a lot of Protein, I drink lots of Water, I get in lots of exercise, ETC ETC ETC"

Why did I even mention the surgery part? I think that what I said directly after saying that I had WLS is pretty convincing as to why I have lost so much weight and have been successful.

I am glad those words had meaning for you.

I have not had anyone ever say I took the easy way out (at least not to my face).

People have been very supportive, they know I was obese but they were shocked by my actual weight, since I did not look that morbidly obese. The are happy for me because I am healthier and look and feel better.

You owe no one an explanation, it is your life and health which you are trying to maximize your lifespan while minimizing health issues and also maximizing the quality of your life. They should be supportive of you, if they are not, they are not truly a friend.

I can try to understand how someone who is not obese could possibly look at weight loss surgery, especially since they are probably not well informed about its success rate and they can't personally relate to obesity from their own experience.

The ironic thing is for the people that judge someone due to their getting WLS to improve their health (mental and physical) and extend their life, is not the WLS but that the act of judging a person for getting WLS is the real issue.

@cowboys4life The way I feel about this is ...

Yes , YOU had surgery ...

Yes , some may see it as the easy way out ...

BUT .... you are correct in saying ... ITS NOT EASY ...

Just because your insides have changed ... doesn't mean your head has changed ... or your mouth has changed ... or your cravings or taste buds change ... ( for most they do ... but there are exceptions ) ...

YOU will have to fight every day of the rest of your life to keep this gift ...

YOU will have to put in the effort and the time and the struggle to become a more healthy functioning person of society ...

YOU will have to exercise ...

YOU will have to learn a whole new way of eating ...

YOU will have to change the whole way you see and think about food ...

It's SUCH a new everything for you ... losing the weight is a small part of all the work that goes into this ... ( granted the best part :) )

As you said ... it's a TOOL .... NOT the ANSWER ...

Within you ... the answer lies ... ( in my best Yoda voice )

:)

Stay strong ... stay focused .... stay the path .... You've got this!

Be Blessed!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
