So I finally heard it tonight!

So I'm sitting here watching tv with my family and I'm told that I cheated because I had the gastric sleeve. My own wife!!! I'm two months out and down to 185 from 275 at my biggest. This is a bummer for me to hear that! Yes I had the surgery but it's a tool and there is a lot of work that goes along with it. I'm really bummed and just wanted to vent, sorry.

If people really knew what we went through during and after this surgery, NO ONE would call it the easy way out.

Peace out to the haters ;)

@@cowboys4life Sounds like there might be a little jealousy or insecurity involved. I would tell her how hurt you are that she thinks that. Of all people, your spouse should understand that this isn't easy.

I agree with KristenLe...

Jealousy is the motive... she may be trying to lose weight, especially with Summer around the corner... Just saying... I'm sorry your feelings were hurt and it's time you had a very long chat with her. I don't think she'll do that again!

My brother thinks that I too took the easy way out and I felt very hurt by his statement. There is nothing easy about this. I had surgery on 5/31/16 and this is a tool I will need to use the rest of my life. Eating healthy choices and exercise will become part of my routine. Some people just don't get it!!

I think it is important to go in to something like this knowing that people will judge and make comments. Just remember why you have done it and what the end results will be. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if my husband said something like that.

@@cowboys4life

hey Tex

two questions

did wife initially support you?

is wifey a "little" heavy??

i wish OP would understand how hard this process is

(walk a mile in our shoes)

the sleeve does assist/ help us during our journey

but we have a lot of hard work in front of us for the rest of our lives

maintenance!!

easier said than done, don't listen to negative comments

don't try and defend you and your sleeve

be happy - you heard it first! LOL

90 lbs gone, gone, gone - down the toilet

you are doing great

keep up the good work

kathy

congrats

The people that think weight loss surgery is the easy way out are truly ignorant.

I am 18 days post op and can honestly say that this is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

It was also the smartest!

sleep apnea = gone

High blood pressure = gone

Pre-diabetes = gone

Statistics show people that losing weight 'the old fashioned way' have a 90% chance of regain plus more than their previous highest weight. It happened to me once. I wasn't going to do it 'the old fashioned way' again expecting different results.

That sucks, especially coming from your spouse. I'mm sure she has seen how much work you have put into this. It is a tool, and it does help. BUT YOU had to do work as well. I think it is probably her insecurities coming out.

So, you're just sitting there watching TV with the family and your wife spews out, "You cheated because you had the gastric sleeve". Really? Just like that?

I acknowledge that what she said was hurtful and spiteful. Not well done by her.

BUT

Even a pancake has two sides.

What preempted her saying such a thing???? Were you having an argument? Were you having a discussion about weight loss and something was said that hit a nerve with her?

I'm having a difficult time finding the connection between just watching TV with the family and your wife deliberately demeaning you----in front of the family.

What really happened, Friend?

Craig, I am so happy you are going to talk to her. I used to say those same things because I was jealous. Great job on weight loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
