Jobey 177 Posted June 2, 2016 Hey, I was wondering if anyone else feels like this?? I live in Australia and until a couple of months ago I have no fricking idea what bariatric surgery was!! I'm pre-op, having my surgery in 4 days (excited and nervous) and I feel like I'm walking around with this giant, awesome secret. Even though I would never do this, cause it's rude. But every time I see someone who's obese or overweight I want to tell them about it and I keep thinking about a number of people I know who have dropped a fuckload of weight in the last couple of years and have maintained it! Do they know about this secret??? Does or did anyone else feel this way??? Or am I just a weirdo?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Icantbelieveit 955 Posted June 2, 2016 Not that rare in America. I have several family members that did it. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
KindaFamiliar 3,867 Posted June 3, 2016 Yeah, I did @@Jobey Still do to some degree... I see big people - not people who are just 'fat', but genuinely 'life-threateningly obese' people and wonder why they don't do something... But then I remember that, not so long ago, I was one of these people... And while all the support and 'help' was offered, it had to be ME who decided when it was time... I just assume that those who want to change will do so when they're ready... Pushing and coaxing me was never gonna help... So I'd never want anyone else to feel I was doing the same to them.. Enjoy your little secret... I hope that as the process progresses, you continue to remian positive and at the same mental stage you're at know... It's definitely an exciting time... And it really does get even better!!!
stevencornell69 107 Posted June 3, 2016 Well I'm personally keeping it a secret myself. When asked how I lost 50 pounds in the last 2 months, I happily tell them ... Hypnosis and acupuncture. No shit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted June 3, 2016 isn't it great? I look forward to seeing your progress.
gina171 626 Posted June 3, 2016 Jobey, so when people ask you about how you lost all your weight, are you going to share that WLS was a part of the equation? I think I want to be up front with people, whether they are thin or not, to help normalize the idea of WLS. I think I would have gotten here a lot sooner if the people who surrounded me didn't consider it a "cop out" ..... Ugh, makes me mad. Jobey 177 Posted June 3, 2016 I have told almost all of my immediate family and friends but that's because I had some other circumstances surrounding my decision and also a health problem which meant that if I kept putting on weight at the rate that I did it literally would have killed me. The only people I haven't been up front with are my work colleagues, other than 2 who I'm really close to. I think that I'll decide whether to be honest or not on a case by case basis. However if any of my friends that don't know ask me and they're overweight I'm going to be honest, so they too know that starving yourself and dieting forever isn't their only option. People who think this is a cop out obviously have no freaking idea!! This is a drastic, drastic life style change and not an easy one!!
