My surgeon said I needed a second form of birth control post surgery because pill would no longer be as effective.

I opted for the IUD about 2 years prior to surgery. It did not make me gain weight.

I just spoke with my endo and surgeon about this and because Vitamins, nutrients, birth control, etc. won't be absorbed as well as before, they prefer you have another form of BC. I think I'm doing the iud as well.

I am on the pill and have been for almost 6 yrs. I didn't have to stop taking it at all with my sleeve surgery. I was told that it is just as effective as before. My body still absorbs it. They said it would be different if i was having bypass.

I take my BC pill just as I did pre op. My surgeon never said there would be any issue whatsoever. 18 months post op and I haven't had any issues at all. I've taken Yaz since I was 18.

I was on the pill for roughly 12 years. I got pregnant while on the pill twice, each time I missed 1 day. A few years prior to surgery I got a Mirena IUD. Period free, no replacement for 5 years. Yes please. I'm now on my second IUD and have not experienced any weight gain. It's wonderful. Insertion and removal is a b%&%&%, but worth it IMO.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
