My surgery is on Monday June 6th and I'm nervous

Recommended Posts

My surgery for the gastric sleeve is this coming Monday. As most people I'm a little nervous. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips and tricks they can give me so that my first week after surgery is a little easier! Thank you in advance

Just know and accept that the first 12 hours or so following your surgery are going to suck! But once that anesthesia wears off you will feel 95% normal again! I'm 3 days post op and have already lost 6 lbs this week.

Walk as much as you can and sip sip sip! Each day is getting better and better for me.

Take your pain meds as prescribed - don't let the pain get bad or it will be hard for meds to catch up. Walk as soon and as often as you can. Your body needs rest and don't think you feel well enough to do housework or yard work - you might feel fine but your body had traumatic surgery and needs you to take care of yourself. Find out exact post-op diet instructions and stick with them. Good luck to all!

On Tuesday I will be on my clear liquid diet in preparation for surgery on Wednesday. A nurse at the hospital told me to drink lots of fluids on Tuesday including Power Aid zero to get my electrolytes up. Of course I can't drink past midnight but before that I will drink lots of low cal clear fluids.

Good luck to us all.

How is everyone doing? I'm 3 days out and so frustrated at the gas pains! I knew to expect them but I didn't realize how much they would hurt.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
