How did you feel two months post-op?

My work has asked if I would go to London on a short term assignment (about 3 months) and it would start when I am about 2 months post op. How did you all feel then? I'm assuming I'll still be a bit tired but one of my biggest concerns is just being out of my element and trying to find the type of high Protein, low sugar and carb foods.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you have about whether or not you feel like this would have been an issue for you.

I am 5 weeks out... and i am completely back to normal... as long as you have a schedule, prepare and plan your menu, macros and calories for the day and find an exercise you enjoy. i dont see how it would be much different to where you are now.

Obviously it depends on your healing time.. but for me the most difficult was the first 2 weeks... once i was on solids.. everything went back to normal (my plan has us going on solids at week 4)

How long into your plan till you get onto solids?

You should be fine. They have Protein shakes and bars in the UK just like in America. You can get a salad with grilled meat and eat the meat off anywhere.

2 months post op your energy levels should be rising. You will have to make sure you get enough calories in each day for energy.

In London you will be forced to walk a lot, unless you already live in NY or Chicago, it should really help with your weight loss.

I am really excited for you that you have this opportunity. I wouldn't pass it up.

Things to remember eating out, you can always get a sandwich, they usually have 2-4 ounce meat portions, and just eat the meat I do it all the time. It is an easy way to control how much you are eating out, and to get cold cuts. You can eat the top off of pizza. Like I said before get a salad with meat and eat all the meat first.

Just do your research and have a plan. If you have a plan you can always stay on plan. For example I know almost every restaurant has a chicken Cesar salad, so if there is nothing else I can eat on the menu I know I can get one and eat the meat off. Even slumming it at a casual place, they will have some kind of sandwich with cold cuts I can eat. If push comes to shove and you are stuck with street vendors, a kabob is better choice than fish and chips. Also the food in Europe tastes so much better than the US, you will really enjoy that post-op.

If you are going to be there 3 months - try to get them to put you up in a flat (apartment) so you can prepare some of your own meals instead of always having to eat out. that way you'll have a little more control. and there is almost always a grocery store within walking distance. there are definitely some folks on here from the UK so they might be able to give you suggestions on brands etc. You can definitely manage there - just avoid the pub grub!

I'm just over 2 months post op and have very similar stats to you. I'm feeling great! Lots of energy and I've got my routine down well. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Lots of options in London as far as food goes - it's a great city! When I visited a few years back, we were on a budget and I was doing a low carb diet. My husband and I picked up healthy pre-made foods at the local grocery stores/markets that we passed. They had plenty of healthy food options to go (I was doing low carb at the time). Also saw plenty of good options at restaurants as well. Have a great time!

I am 7 weeks out & absolutely exhausted. How are you both feeling great??!! HELP! I don't feel bad. But I am so tired all of the time. I need naps. I can't excercise because I'm so tired. I'm not sore just tired. How many calories are you eating? I'm thinking I am too low at 600.

I think it all depends on your specific situation. I am 10 weeks out and have no issues with energy. I feel great.

However, I have a bit of a stricture, so eating is very challenging for me and that would pose potential difficulty. I would not be able to pick meat off of salad/sandwiches without getting sick. I have to opt for Soups, etc.

If you are able to get an apartment setup that should make things much easier.

Regardless, you'll figure it out and be fine. In my opinion it's worth the effort to gain that experience.

600 calories sounds really low. I typically come in around 750 and 900 calories, with at least 60 grams of Protein. If I don't hit my Protein or if my calories are lower than normal, I feel exhausted too. BTW, it did take me a while to find my calorie/protein groove before I started feeling like myself again.

THANK YOU! my surgeons plan has me on 600 calories until I reach my goal. I'm getting at least 60 grams of Protein. Taking Vitamins. I'm actually very healthy (just over weight) no blood pressure meds, etc. I'm still having a VERY hard time getting all my liquids. The more I read up on these success stories - everyone is having more success with higher calories.

I guess everyone recovers at a different rate.

But if your energy is low, you might want to look at your nutrient intake.

Try to increase the amount of Iron and B12 that you are getting from food, ensure that you are getting enough Water and Protein.

Also, i had an issue with having jittery shakes the other day, turned out my blood sugar was low.. once i increased the carbs a little.. it improved.

A typical day for me is:

Breakfast: egg omelette with lots of veggies

Snack: yoghurt or cheese, ive also been making egg/cheese savoury muffins (no flour) for when i need to eat on the go

Lunch: meat/fish with veggies

Snack: cheese wrapped in deli meat

Dinner: fish or meat and veggies..

I'm making stewed meat and casseroles with veggies so they are softer so i can get more in, i also try to add greek yoghurt as my dip/side and Beans or lentils for extra Protein.< /p>

I plan my meals prior to ensure all my meals have the total protein i need for the day and have a rule... i am not allowed to sleep until i have all my Water for the day.

I am not big on Protein Shakes as i don't think nutrients should solely come from synthetic chemicals... but if i come up short for the day... i will have one.

I am getting around 800 calories, 80g protein and 84oz water a day

.. when i was getting 600 i was feeling a little tired.. so i increased it.

Do not be scared of increasing your calories... it actually works against you to have them too low.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
