Stalled for months

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have issues with severe stalls then gains? I was sleeved in December of last year quickly lost 78 then haven't lost basically a pound in 3 months and then now I actually gained 8 pounds. I strictly monitor my intake and am wondering if I am one of the sleeve failures now....

What are you eating on atypical day? How many calories, what are you drinking? Are you exercising? We can "monitor intake" but still be eating the wrong things...

What exactly are you doing?

Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day?

What is your Protein target? Are you getting at least that amount a day?

Are you eating Protein first?

Are you avoiding starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods?

Are you eating enough good fats and carbs?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as instructed?

Are you exercising?

Have you talked to your NUT about your concerns? What does he or she advise?

Are you attending support group meetings?

Are you practicing mindful eating? Eating slowly? Taking small bites? Chewing thoroughly?

Similar to what I posted yesterday and as I ponder the questions @@Inner Surfer Girl posed I wonder how many of us struggle with those things, after all if I could have done even a handful of them routinely before surgery I wouldn't have needed it. However, I did commit to all of them beforehand, knowing that was what I needed to do to be successful and this was a great reminder of that commitment.

From what you describe, you likely aren't eating enough to keep losing. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but you need to eat enough to lose.

Are you losing inches?

I've only lost 6 lbs. over the last 3 months but I have gone down two pants sizes.

You need to take Vitamins, you won't be getting enough food in to be getting everything you need from it.

How much Water do you drink? Your body needs it, so maybe try upping?

I don't know what P3 is, but what are your Protein goals and are you hitting them? You're quite far out so I'm surprised you're not eating more 'real' food? Don't get me wrong, I still need one shake a day to hit my goals, but you seem to be eating only one actual meal a day (the chicken). It wouldn't hurt to up the number of meals you have a day. What's your calorie intake like? Macros are important but I'm doubting you're getting enough calories in.

Track your food and Water intake. You likely are eating way too few calories and in starvation mode, or eating way more fat or carbs or something bad. P3 Protein packs are made by oscar meyer - they're lunchmeat bombs full of sodium.

Weight can stay the same but you can lose fat and muscle if you're starving your body. You want to get your calories and Protein up to a decent level so the loss is fat, not muscle (that's just scary!). And the brain and body functions do need a minimum number of calories to operate, so if you've been in a deficit for long, you'll likely be seeing some issues with cognitive function and strength and stamina.

And you absolutely should be taking Vitamins for the rest of your life. You're not eating enough in general if that list you posted is basically all you eat, and you make no mention of even eating vegetables - especially nutrient-dense ones like spinach, broccoli, avocado, etc. - then your body is basically eating itself and has no source of nutrients/minerals without the Vitamins. You're definitely going to have long-term issues if you're not eating healthy real food (not shakes) containing Proteins, vitamins and minerals and healthy fats.

For the most part it is a basic equation of burning more calories than you consume.

For the most part.

How carefully are you measuring things ?

How much are you burning ?

Are there times in your day that you could fill with exercise ?

Don't believe the conventional hype that gets shoved at you.......exercise is a tremendous aid in weight loss. Hop on a treadmill and type in your weight and watch the calorie burn counter rack up some numbers. You will soon equate a certain amount of effort with a heap of sweat and effort. Trust & believe that it will help you remain disciplined the other 23 hours of your day.

If treadmills aren't your thing.....then try a stationary bike or elliptical machine.....toss in some structured weight training and I guarantee that you'll feel better in a few short weeks. Keep after it and own the results you see displayed on your scale.

Effort.

Discipline.

Embrace them and you will profit.

I had about a 3 month stall also - my weight would fluctuate back and forth about 2 lbs. oh - I am 7 1/2 months out and close to my goal. When I went to my NUT - she told me I was not eating enough calories and raised it to 1200 ( I was eating between 800 - 900. She also told me to make sure I ate 5 - 6 times a day and that Protein was a part of each of those. We also discussed my exercise routine and she suggested that my body had become to used to my routine and to shake things up a bit.

I have done all that and have started losing again. Although I have set my personal goal at 150 - my surgeon told me not to lose below 159. We came up with a compromise of 155 (so I could get into a healthy BMI. As I get closer to my goal, I can see what the surgeon was talking about - for my age, etc. I don't want to become a bag of bones with a lot of flappy skin lol.

Although I have been walking and swimming regularly, I have added cycling, weights and resistance training to my routine three days a week. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
