6 more days and im kinda freaking out

Recommended Posts

Tuesday 6/7 is my surgery day. I'm starting to get anxious. I've been working through my emotional eating and the whys and ins and outs. I've been in counseling for the last two years. I've noticed how MUCH I put food in my mouth and how food is such a clutch and "friend" to me. It has been my whole life. I'm also so READY and so excited for this surgery and can't wait to see results and finally have this tool. It's the last resort. I've done everything. I'm 24. I have a two year old. I'm in school full time and work full time. I have 9 days off. I'm anxious about recovery. The physical and the emotional and mental aspect.

I'm also diabetic and need this surgery to get my diabetes under control.

Please. Any encouragement? Any advice? Anything. I'm getting anxious. Two years ago I had a traumatic emergency surgery. It was terrible and scarring so I think that's a trigger.

I have no pre op diet just a 24 hour. I've ordered unflavored Protein to put on Jello and in broth for first week.

Any food addicts out there that have done really well? I cannot fail.

You are going to do just fine. I had my surgery 10 days ago and honest to god I am in absolutely zero pain right now. I was just as addicted to food as you are so giving it up was such a tough adjustment and lucky for you, you don't have to do the two week pre op liquid diet which was the toughest part. After the surgery you won't even be physically hungry and you just have to make sure you get your liquids and Protein in. I am around the same age as you I am 23 so I commend you on taking action this early. I've dropped 23 lbs in 10 days and the scale keeps going down. This will be the time that your life is going to truly change for the better. Your kid is going to be so happy to have a healthy parent. Best of luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Think of how much healthier you will be physically after the surgery. Once that's out of the way, there might be less stress and more room for you to work on the emotional side of things.

I have binge eating disorder, and I did amazing with my lap band until my body decided it didn't like it. I didn't lose much weight (a total of 30 lbs) before I had to have it taken out, but it really helped me to stop and think about why I was wanting to eat. With that physical limitation and the discomfort that comes with it, it was great incentive to look inwardly. Even now with the band removed, I don't just mindlessly shove all of the food into my face because I remembered how much it sucked to feel sick afterward. When I had a gym membership, I tried to redirect my eating urges to exercise as well... it kinda worked, lol. I still hate exercise, but I got a bigger emotional release and felt better after working out than I did after eating til I was ready to pop.

Make sure to get in your walking after you've had the surgery. I remember that was the worst part for me, tender tummy and gas pains wasn't fun. I'm only going on lap band experience (and removal), and I'm sure others will have some great advice for you re: recovery, but I have two friends who had the sleeve and their recovery seemed miles easier than my lap band recovery.

Good luck <3 feel free to PM me if you wanna talk!

it's normal to be nervous, it is surgery after all. But keep focusing on the the positives that will come from it. how much weight you will loose, how much better you will feel, how much better you will look

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
