I read that 100% of all those who have bariatric surgery die.

Based on my research, it's due to breathing oxygen before they died.

Hold your breath, people!

My doctor didn't advise against it at all because that was also one of my concerns so I'm right there with you. I was advised to wait 3-6 months and try alcohol again in small doses and at home. He said you'll get drunk faster and no need to test the waters out in public and not know how you will react to it.

Personally, when I am back to regular food and have all of that figured out I intend to try alcohol again. Good luck!!

Dr says not to drink period and really won't discuss anything about it. I just wanted to know if I would be physically able to and what would happen if I did. I fully understand that this is a commitment to a healthy life, which binge drinking doesn't fit in. I just wanted to try to see if others had any experience with it, whether or not I choose to do it post surgery. Thanks so much for your help, just trying to get an idea of what is in store for me.

I also remember reading and hearing years back that "4 out of 5 doctors prefer Camels".

Well at least 1 out of 5 doctors aren't into bestiality! :)

My good friend who is 5 years out from surgery drinks occasionally - we get together once every month or so and we will each have a drink. They hit her pretty quickly, but also don't last that long. One drink and she's tipsy, but within a couple of hours after eating and chatting she's sober enough to drive.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
