Has anyone done medifast with their bypass? My friend lost weight using this program and she has been talking to me about it. Her "mentor" said that I could do it along with my bypass... but I'm wondering if the food would even be what I'm needing? She said they also have a shake program... but I can do shakes at home on my own. Just curious if anyone else has done this before/during/after surgery.

I think some people use Medifast for their pre-op/supervised diet.

As to using it long-term, post-surgery I don't know that you would want to.

One concern is that with the bypass you have malabsorption so you wouldn't be getting all of the nutrition from the Medifast which is already minimal. Plus, it isn't cheap.

Definitely talk to your surgeon before doing this.

I'm not sure why you would want to. Learn how to eat properly now. Medifast isn't sustainable long term and you should take advantage of the WLS to help you learn healthy eating right away.

Thanks, that's why I was curious if anyone else has used it. She said that people that had the bypass used the program, but it wasn't making sense to me why? I thought maybe I was missing something.

Yeah, her mentor either doesn't know what he/she is talking about or has something to gain from getting you to buy it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
