How soon after surgery were you permitted to swim?

Recommended Posts

Be careful going into the ocean if your incisions are not fully healed - due to all the bacteria in the ocean. But I was cleared to swim in a pool week after surgery - just nothing strenuous (spelling)

Apply tegraderm, we use it in the hospitals to cover your if, almost reminds you of Saran Wrap but sticky on one side. You can get it at cvs, Walgreens, Walmart, target etc . I'm going to myrtle beach so I will be applying it over my incisions. You can apply right over your scar or put a cotton ball over your scar and tegraderm over top. No Water gets through! Last summer I got my nipples pierced, I went to the ocean and applied degrade fm over so I didn't expose them to the water. NO issues, no problems!

IV **

My doctor told me 3 weeks. TEgraderm or no, please follow doctors orders. And just remember you will have to leave it on until it falls off. Otherwise you will pull off your glue/strips when you pull off the TEgraderm.

My tape has come off, but I notice my belly button isn't quite healed. I use Neosporin. Taking my grands to Disney tomorrow. I will get this. Thanks for the suggestions.

I had my two week checkup yesterday. They said to use neosporin twice a day and the glue will peel off. I can swim when there are no scabs left on the incisions. Fingers crossed that it will be quick! I want to get back in that pool!

4-6 weeks depending on Incisions

I would not feel safe with one week old incisions in pool.

I thought it was odd too he cleared me so soon after reading about a lot of people having to wait much longer. But I've swam more than once now and all my glue is still covering my incisions so they don't seem to be bothered.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
