Recommended Posts

has anyone had chia seeds and or grounded flaxseed? I currently been adding chia seeds and flaxseed to my morning Breakfast Protein Shake and I like how the combination taste plus it is good for the body.

Hemp seed are high in Protein too... I have them, I'm pre op... In reviewing my papers from the NUT, I see they will be allowed post op too... Hemp seeds are soft so easy to add to yogurt, have a nutty flavor similar to flax seed.

I waited until three months to eat anything with hard bits. I have in my fridge a mix of flax seed , wheat germ, chia seeds, and crushed walnuts that I put in as many recipes as I can.

Also chia and similar seeds swell and gel up when they meet liquid

I ate them a lot before surgery, but will wait till week 6+ post op to avoid problems

I'm on day 13 of the liquid diet pre-op & I just read on my surgery papers that says not to take flaxseed 5 days prior to surgery plus some other stuff and I've been adding flaxseed to most of the Protein Shakes I've been making lately (maybe 3-4 days now) and my gastric sleeve surgery is Tuesday... Should I be worried??! 😬

Yes, I am a fan of both. I especially love to make chia pudding with my kefir or yogurt. Yummy.

I used to often make chia seed pudding like @Tomo regularly but haven’t for a while now. Funny how you get out of the habit of making/eating something. I’d just use vanilla as a flavour & would add a spoonful of milk powder to the mix for extra Protein too ( it can make it extra sweet though).

I have a spoon of mixed seeds cooked in with my porridge every morning.

Your plan should tell you when you can add seeds (& nuts) back into your diet (if it doesn’t ask for guidance). It usually is a couple of months after your surgery but plans do differ.

Seeds are a great complex carb & a source of fibre, Protein, & other nutrients. Are beneficial to your digestion. Sprinkle on salads & Cereal, use as a crumb crust on meats, throw some in your smoothie, make a nut & seed mix for a snack, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
