So I had my surgery on April 30th. I suffered from PCOS and irregular menstruation before surgery. I got my first post-op period 5 days after my surgery. It was very light. 26 days later I get my second period and again it's extremely light unlike the usual at all. Has anyone had this happen to them? It seems I'm periods are becoming more regular, I used to get my periods every 35-50 days before surgery. But I never got periods this light before. Also this time the cramping seems more intense whereas before surgery I hardly ever noticed any abdominal cramping before or with periods..

I also suffer from PCOS except I would never get my period unless I took medication to bring it on.

I was about 5 days post op as well when I got mine. It was extremely light as well. I'm really interested to see if it comes on its own again. I was completely shocked I got mine since I do not get them on my own.

I do not suffer from PCOS but my periods are INSANE still at 9 months post op. I'll have it a day or two, then nothing for a couple days..then spotting again for another day or so... It's getting ridiculous!

I don't have PCOS, but I can tell you it's normal to see changes in your period after surgery. It really throws your hormones for a loop!

My cycle has been different since surgery. It was always 25 to 28 days. Now there are about 17-19 days between the beginning and ends of my cycles.

Mine were normal until April, now they have been all a mess. I'm hoping they will stabilize soon.

I have PCOS. Im 10 months out and get my period twice a month! Our hormones are wacky for quite sometime after surgery, but its very common for women's periods to regulate themselves. I havent noticed the RNY help my PCOS yet, which is a bummer.

I am on the pill simply to regulate my cycle. I got my period while I was still in the hospital (about 1 week early) and it basically didn't stop until week 5 post-op! At my 2 week post-op appointment, I mentioned that I still had it and they said that it was completely normal because hormones get out of whack when we lose weight, so it's even more so after WLS. It got lighter after about 2 weeks but I definitely spotted for 5 weeks...!!!

I started my bc pills about 4 weeks post op and then my cycle started a week later. I can only recall having one painful period and that was during high school around the time my period was induced, this cycle has been quite painful and also heavy compared to my cycles before RNY. I am so glad that I'm not the only person who noticed a change, I was becoming worried. My cycles used to be 2 to 3 days and today is day 7, it has slowed up but still out of the norm for me.

If your periods get heavy or wacky (like mine did- got my period 2 times a month and heavy) you'll be a year out with anemia, like I am. I upped my Iron like my bariatric clinic told me to do and still wound up anemic. If your periods are heavy, let them know so they can adjust your iron, and listen to your body. If something doesn't feel right and doesnt get better, have your blood checked.

I had surgery on the 21st April and the day of surgery I got my period and it's been heavy then light then a few days of like black mucus then milky, then a couple days nothing and then it will be heavy again its been like this for 4 weeks now... I also have PCOS and very unregular periods. like I miss them for months at a time but this is the longest I've had them for... has anyone else experienced this after surgery?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
