aschuyler 0 Posted May 31, 2016 I had the RNY surgery the morning of May 26th. Every day I have had slightly less pain, but my one surgical incision on the left is still painful. It doesn't hurt unless I am moving and the pain is a burning internal pain. The incision is not red or swollen and I have no fever. Is this normal? MCE1205 47 Posted May 31, 2016 I had RNY on Apr-13 but no problems with laparoscopic sights. I didn't need any pain meds once I was home. If it were me I'd call my surgeon tomorrow - don't take a chance. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Daisee68 2,493 Posted May 31, 2016 Yes, it is normal. It is MAJOR surgery and you are only on day 4. (I recall day 4 and 5 being my worst.) Try to be patient. Use some ice or heating pad and take your pain meds if needed. It gets better but give your body time to heal.
pammieanne 269 Posted May 31, 2016 I had my surgery on 5/16, and that pain on the left side is still there... kinda like when you drink Water and then run, you get a stitch/cramp... It's normal, and can last up to 4 weeks... of course, if it gets worse, you should definitely talk to your doc.
aschuyler 0 Posted May 31, 2016 Thanks, I noticed that even today it is a little less. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
pammieanne 269 Posted May 31, 2016 Mine is better everyday too. I still can't sleep on my left side though... which is my favorite. I look forward to the night I sleep on my left side! Ha!
lissybug33 4 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) I had a JP drain on the left side and it took a little while for that one to feel better. I think that pain is normal. As long as it's not red or swollen. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited May 31, 2016 by lissybug33
lissybug33 4 Posted May 31, 2016 Oh and I'm 4 weeks out and it hurt up until a week or so ago. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
kmaitre 14 Posted June 6, 2016 I had my RNY surgery on May 27th. I remember the Nurse telling me that the upper left incision would be the most painful because they went through more muscle in that location. That may explain the deep pain. hrmills84 26 Posted June 7, 2016 I had RNY on 5/23 and still have tenderness in my upper right belly. It gets better every day but definitely not something I'm super concerned with. We just had our insides scrambled. It's going to take some time to heal Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
