The great straw debate!

Recommended Posts

Haven't read the whole thread yet so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. I stay away from straws because they increase the wrinkles around your lips. The same way smoking does.

@@CHM LOL, brilliant minds think alike (I swear I was just thinking exactly the same thing)!

In case we actually are all going to implode, for the barbaric use of straws after surgery, I did a little (note little) investigation. Someone allready stole my idea of creating a airless drinking straw. A quick Google search led me to the Amazon page. I personally had planned on naming mine "The Bariatric Siphon". The siphon idea is straight forward, I was still working on the plans for the vacuum attachment, that would suck out all the dangerous air from your mouth/lungs prior to drinkage. Keep having problems with collapsed lungs...

I thought my Ex was the only one who used that excuse!

Just had initial contact with NUT. My team recommends waiting 6 weeks only because a straw can cause burping and burping can hurt! After that straws are ok...so they say.

While I am sucking, through a straw of course, I breathe through my nose - so I don't lose suction :P

So are suckers dangers too? I like a good Blow pop once in a while :o

@@LipstickLady, this is a legitimate question, please do not banish me to the island of misfit toys -

Suck and blow? In my sorority girl days we had a mixer with Sig Ep that was called the Suck and Blow. I'd still wear the t-shirt but it's a bit big now.

"Bubbles" is a chimp...

Hey! Leave my chimp alone!
Is this where that phrase "spank the monkey" comes in?

Depends who's doing the spanking....

I feel I've slept thru the fun again...

I'm starting to take the lack of a 'heads-up' personally...

And yes, it was with some trepidation that I used the term 'heads-up' around you people...

perhaps assign each of your friends to be responsible to give you the 'heads-up' one day a week? maybe each thinks the other is doing it for you? just a suggestion......

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
