I would like to know your experience on how much pain the surgery is.

I have had my gallbladder out and 2 C-sections.

Can anyone compare the pain you had with a sleeve or bypass compared to either a C-section or a gallbladder removal?

It would be good to put it into perspective.

Thanks!

It's better than expected. I'm four days out and starting to really feel better. I had four C-sections, So I understand the pain. You will do great!!! just give yourself the time you need to rest. I'm trying to do just that.

I found that there was very little pain after my RNY gastric bypass surgery. So little that I did not take any pain meds after leaving the recovery room. I have a high pain tolerance. Walking daily 6 months prior to surgery on a daily basis helped reduce the pain levels significantly.

I had a hernia operation years ago and it was very painful. It was an open operation. Years after that I had a second hernia operation which was done laparoscopically. This was less painful. But my gastric bypass was even less painful.

I was shocked with the post pain... it was probably about 2-3 out of 10... I was sleeved with gallbladder removal...I think if your pretty physically fit that helps too... just the left side stab wound surgeon did can cause discomfort at times... the nausea & gastric acid was a been a big concern in beginning...

Very little surgical pain.

Really.

Took only two doses of hydrocodone first day back home (spent only one night in hospital). Simply didn't need it.

Very little post op pain here. No pain meds once out of recovery. Buy problem was nausea. I had a lot of nausea but it has stopped for the most part and I'm fine.

The only pain I had was in the incision sites. I would imagine a csection hurst a lot more as that is a much bigger incision

I had some sort of nerve block, and very little pain. and I got a new me for going through it.

my c section- yikes. that was pain. but at least I got a cute little boy outta that mess.

the sleeve was harder in that you have to follow a liquid diet afterwards. with the c section it was back to normal foods.

Hey there!!! I had 2 c sections and for me, they were way more uncomfortable than the sleeve surgery and took longer to recover from. My sleeve pain was very mild and I was back on my feet running around town 4 or 5 days after surgery. I'm now 5 and 1/2 weeks out and other than the restriction I would never know I had surgery.

LipstickLady is right about the gas pain... That's what usually surprises the people the most- ouch! The quicker you move the faster it feels better.

Good luck and take care! :)

2 out of 10, maybe. No nausea, gas or pain really at all other than the occasional twinge from the left side. Laparoscopic surgery is awesome. My stomach was removed thru my belly button so itched and that was more of an irritant than the mild pain.

2 LEEPS and 1 cervical biopsy....5 out of 10 done without anesthesia and Mo..Fu...er they hurt!

Endometrial Ablation 2 out of 10....outpatient no pain meds needed.

Gallbladder surgery 2 out of 10....discharged 2 hours postop needed no pain meds.

VSG 2/3 out of 10....discharged 16 hours postop, still no pain meds needed.

Cervical vertebrae fusion surgery....8 out of 10, with a couple moments of 9/10. LOTS of pain meds required.

Gallbladder attacks before surgery 12 out of 10. Meds couldn't touch the pain.

I actually woke up in quite a bit of pain and very nauseous. Once they pumped me full of meds I was golden, but then I ended up with a splitting headache for 2 days that was 10X worse than the surgical pain.

Once the headache was gone the pain was minimal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
