Hello. I had my surgery a week ago. My official weight the surgeon is using is 233 lbs but my original weight was 260 before the 6 mos of diet the insurance company made me do.

My surgery went well but I was in recovery for almost 8 hrs because I couldn't stop throwing up. Luckily once all the anesthesia was gone, I made a 180 and was able to go home the next day.

I've noticed the wide variety of diets given by the doctors. I did not have to do preop diet other than Clear liquids after noon the day before surgery. I'm currently on full liquids and can start soft foods tomorrow. Right now I'm perfectly fine with my PP shakes and sugar free Popsicles.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say I'm looking forward to this journey and am glad I found this forum.

Hi I had my surgery on 11/05 and my starting weight was 215 current weight 190.

I didn't do a pre op diet either but my post op diet seems a lot different to others (I think it may be with me being in the UK).

I'm still on a full liquid diet - I have to follow this for 4 weeks, so still just over a week to go! Then 2 weeks puréed food before finally starting on soft foods.

I'm finding it quite difficult on the liquid diet, counting the days down to soft food.< /p>

Welcome to the forum!!

Hi, I had surgery on the same day. I have to do Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. I feel ok just very weak and tired. I hope this will get better. It is hard sitting here watching TV and seeing all these food commercials and I feel hungry but can't eat.

Hi, I also had surgery the same day. I just found this message board 2 days ago. My insurance company required 3-4 months pre-op with no specific weight loss required. I started off at 341 lbs and was 328 on the say of surgery. I am on clear liquids and 3 Protein shakes a day until next week. Then I go down to 2 Protein Shakes and soft foods for 1 meal for another 2 weeks.

My recovery has been pretty unremarkable which I am surprised and grateful for. My biggest issue right now is gas pains that happen at night. Luckily gas-x helps with that.

Where are your gas pains? I had surgery 5/25 and have pain that runs from my stomach up to my chest. Feels like heartburn or something.

My pain mostly stays in my stomach. But what you are describing sounds like the description of gas that the nurse gave me. Mine just doesn't travel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
