Weight Watchers/Lean Cuisine

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Any reason not to have a frozen weight watchers or lean cuisine as a meal? Obviously I'd likely only be able to eat 1/2 serving. But it's quick easy Portion Control. I'll check with my NUT but in the meantime any feedback? Thank you

There is not a single lean cuisine out there that is not loaded with carbs. I'm not as familiar with weight watchers but I imagine they are similar. Protein costs too much to put very much of it in frozen dinners. The Atkins meals may have a little more protein, but even with those you are getting a sh**t ton of sodium, binders, fillers and other not so healthy ingredients.

yes to what @@Kindle said - however it is pretty easy to make some good Protein dishes that freeze up well in your own portion sizes so that you basically end up with the same grab and go convenience. I usually do a lot of cooking for the week on Sunday and I believe several others here do the same. I try to put a few dishes in the fridge and a couple in the freezer, so I can pull out a variety for the week and not eat the same thing every day.

If you like quick, easy meals, get a vacuum sealer. I make big batches of whatever, divide them into my portion sizes, freeze them then vacuum seal them. Then they are ready to pop in the microwave anytime, even months later with no freezer burn. I had Thanksgiving leftovers well into March this year. (Tip - freeze first, then vacuum, in order to avoid all the liquid getting squished out)

They taste gross and have too much sodium.

Now that I am sleeved, I find much pleasure in high quality, high flavor food. I buy expensive cheeses, seafood salads, meats... I can only eat a bit so it never costs me more than a dollar or three -- much less than I was paying for fast food.

If you are looking for convenience (I do!!), go to Whole Foods, Wegmans, Fresh Market or whatever fancy market you have and get teeny containers of great food. Just as convenient but so much better tasting.

Bariatricfoodie.com and theworldaccordingtoeggface are both good recipe sites.

I just discovered the eggface blog and really like it. I'm still on soft foods, but I'm already using some of the recipes and portioning them for a quick and convenient meal. I've made a ricotta bake, an egg salad, and a krab salad so far. My fridge is full of tiny containers of them. I am definitely going to need to buy some more tiny dishes, tupperware, and utensils.

They have some high Protein ones that are good. I stock up on them when they are on sale

When looking at the "high protein" ones go with the rule of thumb 1 gram Protein = 10 calories..so if it has 15 grams of Protein it shouldn't be more than 150 calories. If it is, it's not a very good source of protein. I've found maybe one dinner out of all of the ones these two companies offer and it didn't look very appetizing :)

I love Bariatric foodie like @@Kindle said. I also have found skinny taste and hers aren't Bariatric specific, but she has all the nutrition calculated and I adjust the ingredients If need be. You can even filter out the low carb recipes and such. So helpful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
