Finally got paid (getting paid once a month sucks, just fyi) - so I can finally get the staples I'll need for the first few weeks after surgery.

Here's what I'm thinking for now:

Bone Broth

Isopure Zero Carb

sugar free Jello

Sugar Free Applesauce

Premier Protein RTD shakes

Syntrax Nectar Protein (still testing flavors)

Unflavored Protein (still testing brands)

What did you wish you'd had at home the first week home after surgery that you didn't think of?

What did you buy that you wish you hadn't?

You're forgetting SF Popsicles and SF puddings.

I don't know how handy you are in the kitchen, but you will be 1000 times happier if you make your own bone broth.

I'm thinking maybe some fresh mint cumcumber to infuse into Water in case you don't like the taste of plain water....not sure what your post op direction are.

Bone broth rocks! So full of nutrients. More so than regular broth. Easy to cook too!

Honestly, if you don't get paid but once a month, don't buy anything past some Gatorade and SF Popsicles.

My tastes changed 90% post op and I threw away so much food that I bought in advance. I couldn't tolerate tea, most of the Protein powders, Jello, Carnation Instant Breakfast. Yogurt sucked, Water sucked. EVERYTHING SUCKED.

I was driving 48 hours after surgery and I needed to walk so trips to the WalSuck were perfect. I drank a lot of chicken broth, broth based Soups (strained), Gatorade mixed with Water. I could eat SF pudding and that was about it, along with my Protein drinks. (Bought 8 different individual kinds until I found two that worked.)

I tossed at least $300 worth of food and Protein crap because I bought it in advance. Why so much? Not only did my tastes change, but I totally over estimated how much I could eat. A fat mind doesn't even begin to comprehend the limitations of a sleeved tummy for a long time. I am three years out and I still over estimate how much I can eat from time to time.

I wayyyyy overbought on the large canisters of Protein powder. At the end of two years I threw a lot of it out. I bought so many Protein Bars that they got dried out and stale. I threw them out too. I would have been better off just picking up a few things at the store once in a while.

I have to backup the advice from @@LipstickLady I found that not only did my taste change, the thought of most items made me nauseas after.

So wish I would have waited to buy most things after, but once reading a few "horror" stories, I really thought I would be bedridden for days if not weeks. Thankfully I was up and out the minute I was released the next day.

Hopefully you will be too!!

Oh dear lord. I could have paid a semester of college in Protein bars that I threw away. I could only eat about 1/3 at a time. It took me a week to finish two. My fat head thought I would eat two a day. HA!!!

I agree. Stick to sample packets of things early out. Don't buy a case or tub of anything until you know you can eat it post-op.

I am over a year out and I am still working through a stash of things pre-op. (Some things have expiration dates so you need to be careful.)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
