jwyatt78 5 Posted May 28, 2016 Hi all! I was sleeved on 4/26, so that makes me nearly 5 weeks post-op. I M currently eating on average 350 calories and 40 grams of Protein a day. As well as drinking 64 oz of Water. The protein and water intake are what my Kaiser program calls for. But, I'm not sure about calories... I've lost 22 lbs in the past 31 days, not sure if eating more calories will help or hurt... Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App
eclecticwingtips 130 Posted May 28, 2016 Im 3 weeks out and eating between 400 and 500 calories a day. I drink between 1.5 and 2L a day. I was told to eat a max of a 1/4 cup of food per meal, not a calorie limit Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
Babbs 14,681 Posted May 28, 2016 You should be at least 500-600 calories by now. 350 and only 40 grams of Protein is not sufficient. Work on getting those numbers up!
Kindle 8,667 Posted May 28, 2016 I was getting 60-80g Protein and 600-800 calories at 5 weeks. The goals set by your program seem awfully low. Setting you up for hairloss and a slow metabolism, which makes maintenance more difficult.
TheRealMeIsHere! 863 Posted May 28, 2016 Not sure what my calories were at that point, but know it took me 18 months to, consistently, hit the required 80 gms of Protein per day. My NUT told me to eat NOTHING that wasn't a high source of Protein, no veggies, fruits, and of course no rice/pasta/potatoes/bread/flour or sugar. Getting enough protein helps keep your body from going into starvation mode and helps minimize hair loss as @@Kindle mentioned. I could only consume about 1/4 cup in one sitting, sometimes not even that. Half a Greek yogurt or Protein shake and I was STUFFED, lol!! Is 40 gms of protein the goal, since you are newly sleeved and it's difficult to hit 80 at that point? Basically, at this point as long as you are focusing on lean/fat free protein and calorie free liquids plus taking the required Vitamins, there really is no need to worry about daily calories unless your NUT is concerned that calories are so low. You don't want your metabolism to shut down and go into starvation mode. It does get easier as you heal. Congrats on the 22 pounds!
