Ladies: Bra Suggestions for Post-Op Recovery Period?

Recommended Posts

So I recently saw a photo of someone's incisions immediately post-op and I thought, "Darn, the biggest one is RIGHT WHERE THE BRA LOWER BAND HITS!" Ouch!

Does anyone have suggestions for a soft bra to wear post-op during the first few weeks of recovery at home? I don't like to sit around with the girls free at all, and while I know I can't get right back in a serious support bra, I don't want to wear no support garment at all. I know I will have visitors, and my 44DD self needs some support to be comfortable in a social situation, even if I am the patient.

And....how long til you could go back to wearing real bras again?

I wore sports bras as much as possible for two months after surgery. They were just more comfortable. I only had one very small incision a few inches below my bra band

I got wireless bra at target, it is very comfy and I have just been wearing that.

You can go back to wearing regular bras whenever you feel ok with it...

I have a wireless bra and a maternity bra that i wear even now.

I have an incision right where the wire would sit and it seemed a little pink around it so i know that the wire was aggravating it.

So till i heal i wear a wireless bra with a tight singlet to hold em in place. I plan to do this until the incisions are 100% healed and no longer looking like fresh incisions.

Early out i wore a sports bra.. or i just let these babies hang out.. but my knees didn't appreciate it.. so i switched to wireless for support lol hahaha

Post op I wore sports bras. They were just easy and did not interfere with incision.

I hate to say it but I couldn't wear a bra for about 8-9 days bc to me every time I tried it felt like the incision was being stretched and it hurt REALLY bad. The good news is that the little incision that you're talking about is tiny bc all it's used for it to put the instrument that retracts your liver (at least that's what my dr said)... So it heals the fastest. I'm less than 3 weeks post op and not only is the incision healed but there isn't even a scar! I went from no bra for 8-9 days back to regular bras... Although they were already too big! Lol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
