jennmonterrozo 139 Posted May 27, 2016 Hello everyone! My name is Jenn and I'm 42 and live in VA. I have been overweight just about my entire adult life. Right now I'm at my heaviest....even when pregnant. I'm 5'3" and 238#. I go for the initial consultation on Tuesday (5/31). I've contacted my insurance company and they do cover the surgery. It looks like I will have to be on a supervised diet for at least 3 months. Looking for any advice/tips/wish I would've know from anyone that's been in my shoes. Waler 330 Posted May 27, 2016 The best advice I can give you is to listen to what the NUT and your doctor tell you to do and stick to it.
Read2016 658 Posted May 27, 2016 I just had my initial consult... My advice is research the doctor you are selecting as much as possibly... If your insurance allows meet with more than one surgeon.... Have you done any seminars about the surgery? James Marusek 5,244 Posted May 27, 2016 Some states have Bariatric Centers of Excellences. They bring together all the disciplines together to achieve a good outcome including surgeons who only specialize in bariatric surgery, hospitals with dedicated wings to their facilities, training courses, dietician, psychiatrist, insurance company specialist. After surgery they have follow up appointment with the surgeon and dietician. They don't just leave you hanging there. All under one umbrella. They sponsor bariatric surgery support group meetings throughout the state. I went through RNY gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago through a Bariatric Center of Excellence in Indiana and was very pleased.
