4yrs out complications need sleeve to bypass need feedback help

Recommended Posts

so after many appointments testing and 3 doctors I finally found my 4th Doctor that gave me the right answers for over 1 year I've had issues with abdominal pain spasms uncomfortable all the time diarrhea which is probably a separate issue and pain with food especially liquids so these are the findings from a correct and accurate upper gi.

1. Concentric narrowing of the mid body of the stomach presumably secondary to the prior gastric sleeve procedure.

2. Demonstration of a small diverticulum of the gastric fundus.

3. Presence of a mild sliding hiatal hernia.

4. Presence of deep residual penetration without aspiration.

his solution and suggestion is a bypass which should fix my discomfort n pain but probably not the "runs" he said there is no way to redo or fix my sleeve because its to risky and can cause more problems and it was probably done very sloppy

although my stomach functions in time the sleve might become more distorted then it is now

im very hesitant to do bypass it wasn't my choice to begin with i need to do more research on it anyone has info on sleeve to bypass please share

so now my question is what unforseen problems will await me with this bypass 2-3 years down the road ? bypass vets please help

Did you have your testing done at the same place where you had your sleeve surgery? If so, are they willing to do the conversion?

I'm not sure what #4 is. Can you "splain it to me, Lucy"?

I'm so sorry you are having issues.

Hopefully with a wee bit more info, you will find some answers.

Prayers going up.

no the original surgeon is no longer in my network and i would not return to them anyway ive seen 3 other doctors. and finally found one that is helpful and willing to explain things properly

number 4 is a narrowing of the passage ways at the bottom of my sleeve "medical term of passage is duodenum and anti?"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
