meridian.jpg 29 Posted May 27, 2016 I dance a bit for fun but I thought it'd be really cool to dance for exercise! I listen to a variety of music like jpop, kpop, jrock, hip hop etc so there's so much I can dance to. I'm just worried about my stomach.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted May 27, 2016 It's a great workout and if you enjoy it - even better! What are you worried about?
meridian.jpg 29 Posted May 27, 2016 I'm worried that something might come loose or I might damage something.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted May 27, 2016 I don't think that's possible. People jog/run and that's not a problem. Unless you dance way different than I imagine! Lol
jess9395 5,449 Posted May 27, 2016 I can't imagine it would be any problem once you are cleared by your doc for exercise. I run marathons and it hasn't shaken anything loose, nor has any of the yoga I've done!
Proud2BMe 1,016 Posted May 27, 2016 Dancing is good for aerobics. However, keep in mind that you can't depend on it for your only form of exercise.
FocusOnMeNow 599 Posted May 27, 2016 How far out are you? I was instructed to limit my exercise to walking for the first 8 weeks. And honestly I could not really attempt to lift weights or anything until about 12 weeks (even though I was "cleared" to do what I was comfortable with at the end of 8 weeks). Sparkles!! 77 Posted May 27, 2016 I love belly dancing, I have surgery in July and am wondering when I'll be able to pick that back up! I'll be asking the surgeon for sure.

I'm 7 1/2 months out, I was told to start walking right away by my surgeon, I was even up and walking in the hallway the following day after surgery. I've been walking all this time but I really wanted to try something to add to it.
TheRealMeIsHere! 863 Posted May 27, 2016 You might enjoy Zumba. It's not only dance, it involves moves that work every muscle group and loads of fun! If you are 7 1/2 months out you should have no worries unless your surgeon has told you otherwise.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted May 27, 2016 I'm worried that something might come loose or I might damage something. If something "comes loose", you need to seek legal counsel. That shouldn't happen under any circumstances. Dancing is good for aerobics. However, keep in mind that you can't depend on it for your only form of exercise. Why not? How far out are you? I was instructed to limit my exercise to walking for the first 8 weeks. And honestly I could not really attempt to lift weights or anything until about 12 weeks (even though I was "cleared" to do what I was comfortable with at the end of 8 weeks). I started back with Martial Arts at 3 weeks. I was, of course, not allowed to spar and I was told to move at my own pace. I started back at Zumba at the same time. I was allowed to start swimming at 6 weeks -- once the incisions were healed. No weights for 8 weeks. Your doctor was very conservative.
AmyR 38 Posted May 27, 2016 I do Zumba and step class and have never had a problem! Move it, Baby!!

Are you meaning she needs to add strength training as well or are you suggesting dance isn't enough in the aerobic department?
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 27, 2016 Once you are cleared by your surgeon and you feel up to it, dance is a great exercise. ANYTHING you do to MOVE is a good thing. You could dance on your own and even join a class. Anything you enjoy doing is going to make it easier to do.
